Oooh that sounds rather nice B_M. We don't have a Heron sadly, the nearest is about 20 miles away. But we do have a Fulton Foods and they frequently have the same bargains as Heron. I shall have a look tomorrow.

Yes, worth a look at FF.
Hope you get lucky as this is good..................... half a tub gone already!!

  • I've been recently and I saw they have 2kg of oven chips for £1. which is 25% cheaper than the cheapest own brand chips in Tesco.

I paid £2.25 for 4 birds eye chicken and veg pies. These are currently on offer in Tesco for £2.00 so I lost out there.

I decided to get the £1.00 chow main frozen ready meal as a tester. It was fine but nothing amazing. could be ok if a few chips were added. Ok meal for them January days where you are trying to make it through the month.

Picked up a couple of other items for the family to try. Got a few of the frozen un branded items.

I don't get everything that I could get from Heron, they can't always match offers, and the prices of some branded products such as bread and crumpets are above own-brand prices.

I haven't been in mine this week, but Hot UK Deals mentions

    3 litres of coconut dairy-free milk for £1, (£1.65 for 1 litre Sainsbury's).

3 Trek protein flapjack bars for £1.

640 g Birds Eye Petit Pois £1. RRP £2.40, smaller packs 545g £2 in Tesco,

For anyone who gets the frozen lambs' liver bits at £1 a pound and is wondering what to do with it (or any liver)

Simple liver and bacon with stuffing.

2 x Beef Oxo cubes, from Heron, or 3 x tablespoons Bisto or similar granules

1 pack Heron frozen lambs' liver, defrosted.

Approx 300g bacon bits (cooking bacon) usually £1 ish a 900g pack, so a third of a pack. (Also in Lidl, if your Heron has none.)

1 pack sage and onion stuffing, made up with water, following the instructions on the pack.

    Method
Put the liver and bacon, mixed together, into a shallow smallish dish.

Make a stock with the Oxo or a thinnish gravy with the gravy granules and pour over the mixed liver and bacon. Add a bit of black pepper or Worcester sauce to the stock/gravy if you like a bit of zip and heat.

Spread the made-up stuffing over the top, and cook in a medium oven for about an hour, a little longer if you don't like your liver pink. The stuffing topping should be crisp and crunchy, but not burned.

Nice with mashed potatoes, or mashed swede and carrots, and peas.

Can't remember where I got this recipe from. It may have been Shirley Goode, I've been making it with Heron's liver for years, as it's too bitty to use fried.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
