Change of role

Hi,

I have been with my company for 8 years and in a middle management role for 3 years.
The company is having a restructure and wants to change my role into one with more responsibility but there will be no pay rise. There are 6 of us doing the same role as me and they want to get this down to 4.

So we have to express interest in this new role and if we don’t get chosen then we will be given a different role. We aren’t happy about this and we don’t want to compete against each other.

Where do we stand? They are also saying that this will not be treated as a redundancy. Can they cut our pay if we choose not to apply for this new role?

Thanks

Do you still want to work there on the same salary?

If so start expressing interest in the new role now

If you're happy with a lower salary, do nothing.

If you no longer want to work there, then look for another job.

If the lower paid role is deemed an acceptable alternative then there is not a redundancy situation. But obviously it would be a redundancy situation if not deemed acceptable.

8 years redundancy money isn't that great so you need to weigh up your options very carefully. How long would it take you find another job paying more than the lower paid role?

Finally if you are in a union, speak to them now.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
