Law firm loses at Tribunal

Not only was Dentons Solicitors found to have unlawfully discriminated against an employee at the end of her maternity leave, but the Tribunal also found that their HR dept destroyed documents and then retrospectively created false ones!

I hope the dishonesty will be reported to the SRA.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

Tribunal cases are won and lost every day.

Did you have a question, or is there something of particular significance in this case that you'd like to share?

Not by law firms they're not - in fact it was one of only four in the past year - hence the case being reported in the legal press.

agrinnall - you're entitled to believe whatever you like. Although given it is a partial quote of Martin Lewis and a reminder of the raison d'etre of this site, it is surprising that you choose to post on a forum so at odds with your world view. Plus your very response proves the need for the signature and is particularly ironic given the morality directed towards OPs - merely seeking such redress - from yourself and others.

I'm hardly surprised Sangie595 agrees with agrinnall. As well as also being rude to OPs on several occasions, she simply hates the fact I have had to correct her on the law and procedure on no less than four occasions on here (the most recent of which - to an employee owed wages - was her false assertion that issuing always costs more than the amount owed. This simply can never be true as anyone can issue proceedings from as little as £35).

I'm a regular reader (very infrequent contributor) to this particular board and have found a wealth of interesting information from the regular contributors. To "keep score" as to how often you have had to "correct" another member's advice is very petty, especially when you consider the number of corrections versus the number of posts that member has made.

I'm actually from MK and this story doesn't appear at all in the first dozen plus pages I've skimmed in this week (or lasts) copy of the MK Citizen, the newspaper delivered weekly to all households in the area that this legal practice serves. Perhaps it might affect them if potential clients do a Google search on the firm, but having a crap HR department wouldn't necessarily dissuade me from using their services.

I agree, keeping score seems petty.

Sangie averages nearly 3 thanks for every post contributed given a thanks whereas mersey is closer to 1 and a half per post thanked. Total posts per week contributed to forum is similar one sides contest. Mersey has been here longer and helped less by that measure.

The article does not say this.

It simply says that the HR manager destroyed her handwritten notes, and later produced a typed-up version.

The article does not say anything about the typed-up version being false.

Hell no! Hotel Chocolat every time - just finishing off the "Classic Christmas Sleekster" box our neighbours gave us. Such a shame my husband doesn't eat anything sweet :D

Whilst true I find it refreshing that Sangie, whilst working for a Trades Union, doesn't post from an "employers are evil/ employees are victims" stance - but rather from the actuality of what the law says and the way it is implemented. There is no point in stating what should happen if life/employment law was "fair" - an employee asking advice on here needs to know the truth about the situation they are in, not receive a big hug - that's what their friends are for. It would be a sad day if her input was lost.

    This has descended quickly! Haha!

Actually from what I'm told by friends in the profession, legal practices are notoriously cruddy employers.

I'm also told Unions can be very hit and miss.
    Union official.
    CiPD qualified.

Anything I post is solely MY OPINION. It never constitutes legal, financial or collective bargaining advice. I may tell you based on information given how I might approach an employment dispute case, but you should always seek advice from your own Union representative. If you don't have one, get one!
