I think the subjects are a bit of a give away as well.

    Citizenship, Dance, Drama etc

    General studies. Woodwork. Etc.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Yep. Having O Levels means that you are well old....

It depends on the type of job to be honest.

Background checks, if you mean DBS, go back quite abit further than 10 years.

Not DBS checks, just the general background checks that most companies employ these days; Security Watchdog and other companies check references and data provided but don't go back much further than 10 years.

To be honest, anything older than 10 years, aside from some context, is likely to have been superseded by something else more recent, and relevant, in your CV. This is just my opinion though.

I also dont have O/A levels on my CV. Its just got my degree and professional quals as far as education goes. The bulk of it is taken up with experience related stuff (so past roles/responsibilities/technologies used and skills).

It depends where you are in your career and what the employer is looking for. Someone looking for a young admin assistant may be more interested in GCSE results and subjects than someone looking for an experienced software developer for a particular project who wont give a toss if you got an 'F' in History.

And is it acceptable to list them as GCSE's instead as they are the equivalent qualification.

They may or may not be an "equivalent qualification", but it is factually incorrect to state you have a GCSE when you actually have an O Level.

Knowingly making a factually incorrect statement is known as lying, and lying is generally not a good idea on a CV. You're more likely to be discriminated against on the basis of your honesty than your age.

I don't list my qualifications, no degree or I would mention that, but gcse and a levels are left off.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

It could work both ways - small business owners may prefer O levels because they're an indication that a (female) job applicant won't be wanting maternity leave any time soon.

I took that I had O'levels off mine a few years ago for this very reason. Mine now lists the subjects and the grades which are in letters just like GCSE's were (until last year when they started the change over to a numbering system)

Seriously? I know Nick_C was being tongue in cheek but he makes a point. If it’s the sort of company that’ll ignore you due to your age at CV stage surely going to the interview is a waste of time as they’ll just ignore you at the interview stage instead.

I really don’t think 45 is old from a employers perspective anyway, 63/64 maybe.
