how much ink are you guys using?

cartridges for the 1290 are only a couple of quid

CISS kits are ok but they can be a bit messy and you have to take the print head lid off the printer to use it.

I use the 1290 exclusively for printing photos, mostly on premium paper so at quite a high resolution as well. To give you an idea, I've got through around 50ml of ink since I got the CISS working on the epson. (the problem I had was poor CISS design which was kinking the flow pipes in the cartridges and stopping the ink from flowing).

You also don't need to have the cover up - I haven't used the attachments that came with the CISS to hold the cable in place, it is mostly done with sticky tape. The cover of the printer is slightly raised but that is all - at some point, I'll cut a small groove out of the side of the printer and the cover will be completely in place again.

Using the CISS also let's me choose which ink I put in - photo quality is fine with what I am using at the moment, but I am going to try some of the 'high quality' ink from somewhere like fotospeed to see if it is better.

  • Hi Shimrod,
I buy quite a lot of ink for other people who have cis systems, and I get it from:
https://www.ink-uk.com Last lot I got cost £11.99 for 500ml bottles, I think its free delivery as well. hope this helps?
