Hi everyone.
Il keep this as simple as possible.
My ex partner and myself applied for a joint mortgage in September 2017 but split up a couple of weeks after we submitted all the supporting documents for the application. My partner then applied for for working tax credits in the Sept 2017 as she was a single mum and currently on maternity leave at the time.
When we initially split up we agreed to go through with the mortgage anyways but I would not be living in the property and the whole point was so that my ex partner and my newborn baby would have somewhere to live.
We've recently got back together (Jan 2018), my partner is no longer in receipt of tax credits.
The mortgage application is now nearing completion and the lender is asking for a tax credit awards certificate.

My problem is, the tax credit award letter does not have my name on it, only my partners.

Will this cause an absolute headache as we've applied for a joint mortgage yet been in receipt of tax credits?

Many thanks.

Do you still need the tax credits evidence to support the application?

  • Thanks for your reply YHM.

The tax credits were not taken into account when we disclosed our salaries on the application because we were not in receipt of them at the time. Randomly they've asked me for a tax credit award letter last week as i presume they've seen the payments being paid into my partners bank on the statements we provided. My partner has received three or four payments but the problem is the award letter only has my partners name on it. Will this be a bit of a nightmare?

Cannot see it being a major issue. They will just want to be checking the award letter to ensure the figures stack up.

  • This was what I initially though to be honest.
But my partner was slightly sceptical and thought if they see that my name isn't on the tax credit award letter and only hers then they may think we've been in receipt of tax credits fraudulently as the tax credits was obviously based on only her income etc as we weren't together.
You just hear of all sorts of horror stories and didn't want to be getting done for fraud or anything.
    Many thanks for your reply
  • Anyone else have any perspective on this?

    Many thanks
