First self assessment tax return

They should never have stopped teaching reading comprehesion in schools. We did it all through primary & was a major pain but at least we know what a form means when it says employment income before tax & tax paid.
Comprehension? My life has just flashed before me - you must be as old as me!0 -
They need to teach to red through a form carefully before attempting to answer the questions, not jumping about looking where to put this and where to put that.0

Can you cite the evidence for that because I find it difficult to believe that only one in 1000 returns are completed correctly.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
It took me 7 years to pass English "O" level at grammar school but I learned to communicate later on. So it is possible to be a late developer. Some people just remain gullible They need to choose their advisors carefully as those who advise can be corrupt. Life is full of unfairness. Having just obtained my fifth cheque for PPI compensation from various Banks, it is clear I was either gullible or under immense pressure to do silly things - but I have come out in a good position without using an advisor or agent. £25k recovered since I started in 2013 to complain about Banks .I have not had much success with Endowment Policies and Pensions - so I am still learning. Will persistence pay off? Watch this space.0

I hope the OP hasn't really spent hours reading this and other forums rather than using official guides to completing the return and/ or using HMRC helplines where appropriate...!0

Love to know what an OP is. Old age Pensioner?0

Good as they are and free, HMRC help sheets can take up a lifetime just reading. 99% of which are not relevant to most individual Self Assessment Tax payers. So you can find yourself buried in too much information. There is a lot more HMRC has to do than anything you will find in this Forum. HMRC are much improved but still do not cater for people who have no concept or understanding of what is actually being taxed,0
