Global debt recovery

Hi, I'm looking for some advice with regards to a debt letter I've received. I was an Ann Summers party organiser and left the company approx. 3 years ago. The local manager collected my kit which I was supplied and my account was £0. After many months I received a letter from Ann Summers asking for £300 odd and when I contacted them they stated it was for the said kit that had been returned to them, which they had organised. The local manager, who I knew well, had left the company so it was someone new and I was unable to contact her direct as I did not have her contact details and Ann Summers would not share this information with me. I refused to pay as it was not a debt I owed and I then received a letter from a company called Moorcroft debt collection. I explained to them the situation (they were very rude and unhelpful) and they said I needed to speak to Ann Summers, who I contacted but they would not speak with me as they said my account had expired. I contacted Moorcroft again who said they would look into this and I heard nothing more - this was about 2 years ago. Then this morning I have received a letter from a company called Global debt demanding this money again. If I owed the money I would have paid it when I left the company but its not my debt so I'm not willing to pay it. I have excellent credit rating so don't want a black mark against my name. I've not experienced this before and I am unsure how to deal with this. I've looked on the internet but there are conflicting bits of advice. Is there a way to sort it other than paying for a solicitor does anyone know please?
Thank you for any positive advice.

Hi Claire
Sending Global the "Prove It" letter would be a good first step to take:

as that puts the onus on them to supply some evidence of why you should actually be held liable for the debt in question.

Good advice from Dennis above, just keep disputing that you owe the debt.
Send the provit letter.
You do not need the services of a solicitor.
It should not appear on your credit file, and there is no such thing as a “black mark against your name”.
