    Hi there,

I'm pretty sure you don't get argos codes but if it's any help and if you can wait for what your shopping for until they do the offer where you get a £5 gift card for every £50 spend it would possibly be worth your while.

I did this buying an x-box from them last year, but what I did first was to buy their gift vouchers (£50 for the x-box pack I wanted) which gave me one £5 voucher then used the voucher to pay for the x-box giving me another £5 voucher, so £10 off a £50 spend or 20% saving if that makes sense.

I don't think it will be too long before they have another one of these promotions with Christmas coming up.

The best saving you can do with Argos whilst the voucher offer is on...
If you are going to spend at least £100 in store on an order purchase a gift voucher for the £100, giving you the bonus of the extra £10 voucher.

If you are spending £150, then purchase the £100 voucher seperately from the £50 gift voucher, this gives you £15 extra towards your purchase.

If you are spending £200, purchase gift vouchers in 2x £100 vouchers, giving you £20 extra.

Hopefully you can see the pattern forming.

And don't forget, that whilst you're spending these gift vouchers at the time of the gift voucher promo you will get an extra £10 or £5 depending on your spend as normal.

The objective is to not make it obvious that this loop hole exists, other CA can turn you away should they catch on. The easiest way round it is to purchase the gift vouchers... go for a cuppa in a cafe and then go back to spend them should you need to spend them that very day.
Alternatively, save them for your big purchase.

Was just reading through your post Ghirl, and it says excludes the purchase of gift vouchers. However most stores don't seem know this, as the till will still flag up the customer has earned the voucher regardless of item purchased or payment method.

Actually it says: Excludes the purchase of gift vouchers using gift vouchers as a method of payment.

Strange! But I imagine you can still buy gift vouchers and use cash to pay for them!

Ahhh yes your right, should of read that bit more carefully.
You cannot buy gift vouchers using gift vouchers. So my theory isn't against any rules at all.

On that note, might I suggest that once you have finished purchasing your gift vouchers to gain extra gift vouchers, use the free one's 1st.

As the offer states they are only valid until 14th Feb, but the one's you are purchasing are valid for maximum period of 3 years. Plenty of time to spend them, and you can get the remaining value put back onto a gift card, and again this will still be valid for that 3 year period.

No loss of money, only savings to be made!

  • Just happened to see this before going to Argos today to buy 2 items, bought £50 in vouchers got £5 free, used the £55 to pay for the first item, got another £5 free, which I then used for the second item. Saving £10 thanks very much!
  • :T thanks for the advice
  • I worked in Argos a few years ago, the voucher doesn't automatically flag up on the till the cashier has to enter it manually once you go over whatever spend. I recall them being quite funny about people either buying or using gift vouchers with this offer, some staff have their heads screwed on, some are not so bright.

Good idea if you can get away with it though!
