:o I used to be a carboot sale queen. I'm good at selling, or I was, and it was a supplement to my income about 20 odd years ago when I ran my little old car with the proceeds.

Things have changed, both in my circumstances and also, I feel, at the carboots. Too many dealers aiming to buy stuff for 50p or less to take home and chuck up on The Bay for £££. Good luck to 'em but the genuine person who wanted something for their own use and was prepared to pay a handful of £££ is the customer I wanted.

  • I just did the "spark joy" test on my wardrobe and added a cardigan, a jumper, a dress and some slightly scratchy pyjamas to a donation bag. My husband also donated some new pyjama bottoms he got for Christmas and a M&S jumper.

There are two completely full bags to go off tomorrow now.:T

My church are now collecting stuff for the local foodbank. I don't know where it is located and am happy someone is willing to drop stuff off there. I had a small bag ready with lipton tea, noodle soup my dds insisted we buy and then did not like, and four bottles of unopened wombled shampoos (I have six more and don't really care for the smell, but it does its work). And then my eye fell ill and I didn't go to church this morning, and I win't go next week, either, as I'll just come back from York.

The eye is probably eczema (I consulted dr g00gle, and those are the only pictures that resemble what my eye looks like; don't g00gle it for yourself, the images are hideous), and I'll visit the gp tomorrow to confirm.

Just remembered: I have a church council meeting on Wednesday evening at the church, so I can take the bag then.

Husband went to visit a griend and saw the bottles of shampoo. He took two to give to friend's wife (they're on benefits). ....just realised he could have taken the whole bag ..... never mind .....

  • Greyqueen, 100% agree with you. I hadn't realised how long I had held onto these bags of things until my partner pointed it out. I think I have removed all low profit items, and from yesterday's clothes clear out I only added four items to the sell pile.

I was going to give myself until my birthday in March to sell it all, but my partner has said Feb mid term or she charity shops it! So taking pictures tonight. I'm going to try gumtree cheap, not eBay. My tech items I need to charge and clear data and then I will probably try a walk in pawn shop type place and try and get a tenner for the lot.

like you I could use some cash... but I also know that a tidy home should encourage me not to buy wasteful items, so is moneysaving in its own way.

Today I did books. This is not a big category as I was harsh in the past. Three books put in a new charity shop bag, along with two items a friend gave me as a gift yesterday, which I thanked for the joy thy gave to give and receive and wish them joy for someone in the future.

I reallllly want to tackle papers tomorrow as I have a filing cabinet, two drawers and a few other hidey bits, but must get this gumtree up first I think.

Oh and I bought a jumper yesterday in a thrift shop which takes up almost half of one of my wardrobe drawers! Thank goodness I cleared space.

It's a hand knitted Aran wool jumper. I realised that I had taken one of my partners hoodies as a homewear jumper, but I don't feel like me or attractive in her hoodies, so I've put the hoodie back in her wardrobe and now have the squishiest wool jumper for when my currently being worn charity shop hand knitted chunky wool cardigan needs to be washed.

    I love chunky wool.

Totally agree with the car boot thing. I need the money and when I sell a car boot job lot for pennies, it can touch a nerve but then I remind myself by the time you factor in the other costs plus the benefit of stuff nothing coming home then the happy feeling of the extra space takes over.

Must admit I can tell I have not being KD for a while as the 'i paid good money for that' is sneakily creeping into my mind set again. Time to reacquaint myself that feeling of 'you served me well' now go and help someone else!

Hello all - been away for a while. From the thread and also on holiday. Unpacked my (small) suitcase and chucked everything in the wash today. even though I only take a cabin sized suitcase for a week, i still had about 5 items that were unworn.

Also been sorting out the house (kids were left in it for the week - 'kids' being 22 and 19) and kondoing christmas cards... decorations have yet to be put in the loft, although they are all bagged and boxed up.

    slowly getting back to normal...

Also one who just can't be !!!!!d to do a bootfair. Everything goes to the chazzer - the small amount of money I'd gain just doesn't seem worth it (though I appreciate other folks may be different).

I've just kondoed the end of a bottle of gin....:rotfl::beer:

    Hello Whiteguineapig xx
  • If I had saved everything I threw out from when I first started Kondoing, and sold it at a car boot sale ....

I’d have lost several days of my life, driven myself mad waiting for the car boot season to start, and made less than £50. :rotfl:

Even the CS didn’t make much on it; I have done a couple of boot sales with a friend who has no car, and the prices people want to pay are derisory. Unless you are very dedicated and organised, or have a special area of interest, I don’t think it’s worthwhile.

Baby clothes and toys are the exception.

I did a carboot sale once, many years ago with all the children's clothes and toys they had grown out of - never again! The crowd that arrived as soon as I opened the boot was unbelievable, people grabbing items and shouting at each other, I was terrified!

I now prefer to give unwanted items to charity, it always feels better to me than putting money in a tin.

I drove to DS1s today, a 140 mile round trip and took some CDs with me as the radio can be a bit hit and miss. 3 of them have been added to the charity bag as they didn't 'spark joy' anymore. Funny how your taste changes eh?
