Hi
My brother is having problems with his electrical supply in East Belfast and recently his Laptop was 'fried' by a power spike even though he was using an anti-surge protector plug
Can anyone please recommend a decent Electrician who from personal experience won't charge an arm and a leg?
I did a quick search before posting this but NI Electricians must be as rare as hen's teeth because previous posts have gone unreplied
Any help much appreciated.

If it is a power spike it is unlikely to be caused in the premises - It is usually happens on the supply side of the meter and therefore is up to NIE to investigate. Have any of his neighbours been having similar problems as normally this would affect more than one household.Dave0

Good point, though if I remember rightly I heard it was difficult to prove and to get NIE to investigate. When I worked in BT we had measuring and recording equipment that you connected to the mains and it recorded any spikes.
Any thunderstorms around the same time?Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -

Most anti-surge protector plugs/ extensions have a warranty which pays out if any electrical equipment is damaged while it is plugged into it.
The one i currently use for my tv, pc and all home entertainment bits covers me up to £50'000. So thats the main reason why i bought it.
worth having a look0
