I'm with First Utility and was thinking of switching to the cheapest fixed tariff which comes with a smart meter, however I do have a 4kw solar panel system does this mean they will not fit a smart meter?.
Should I sign up anyway?.
Should I sign up anyway?.

If you've read any of my posts on smart-meters you'd probably guess that I'm not a big fan of the way that they're being rolled-out & how much they'll be costing ...
... Anyway, although there's allowance in the unit specs for multiple registers which could be used to meter renewable energy export to the grid, I don't think that any supplier is using them yet (anyone know better?), possibly due to it being cheaper just to continue to pay the FiT export tariff based on the deemed 50% of total generation, however I don't think that having solar panels would stop anyone fitting a smart-meter, after-all, even if there's no benefit, they stand to make the best part of £500 from every installation on top of the reduced cost of meter reading etc!
There's a brief (/unbiased) project round-up & history covered on the blog/site I use for renewables news & solar generation forecasting (etc) here ... <Smart Metering - (1). Introduction: What's it all about ?> ... if you're interested ..
