O/S Daily Sunday 14th January 2018
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry underfoot but air is quite cold, but not quite a frost, set to get colder this week though.
DH and myself now enjoying first peaceful cuppas, after having a lie-in, doesn't happen very often that we get to lie-in until 7.30am. I can hear some movement from upstairs.
Dinner last night was hot chicken rolls, french fries, pork pie (menfolk), side salad, cheese, boiled egg, smoked salmon, pasta salad and coleslaw, ice cream for dessert. Today we'll be having roast lamb etc, I'll organise pack ups whilst lunch is cooking.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted in town then DS1 and I headed to the hospital, she wasn't too bad but talking gibberish though. My bro arrived to visit as we left, so I'll get his thoughts on it.
I used up some sausagement that I had put in the freezer at xmas to make a batch of sausage rolls yesterday morning - most of them have gone already.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone
Thanks for the thread nmlc I hope that there is an improvement in your mum today.
Dumpling I do hope that they put together a good supportive care plan for Becky with sufficient contacts for you if you need help and support with caring for Becky.
It isn’t very good of your OH’s son Csarina, leaving you to do all the caring work for your OH. It is good that you got the cleaners in, at least that is a little bit less for you to do, but you still do so much that it isn’t surprising that you caught flu.
Ouch Judi, bits of a knife in your cut finger sounds like it was really painful. It’s good that you managed to find it and get it out though.
LaineyT I was sorry to read that you are down at the moment, hopefully you will start to feel a bit more upbeat soon.
Glad you got the new car sorted nannywindow, especially as it is one that you both like.
I don’t know what I will be doing today, I’m in a very indecisive mood at the moment.
So I’ll just wish you all a good Sunday.0 -
Morning all and thanks NMLC. It seems Nan's Sandman was doing the rounds last night we are all lie-a-beds. I didn't get up till 7.20 which is a good lie in for me!
I did my bus ride into town yesterday, accompanied by Mr TA. I had a look at the M & S sale rails but nothing appealed. If it did it was too big or too small! Mr TA still had a gift card from his birthday in November and wanted some trousers. Sadly nothing in the sale but he did "buy" some cords with it at normal price so happy with those. I got my Sparks 20% off fish supplies, which was the purpose of the little trip. So stocked up for a good while. I do like M & S fish, it's my one indulgence!
I must clean the bathroom today but first I want to colour my hair (skunk root alert) as I manage to throw the dye everywhere. I have got a different brand/shade this time so hope I don't regret it!
No idea what we are having for meals today as Mr TA was in a bit of discomfort yesterday and when that happens he cuts back on food till it passes, Usually within a day or two but with a tumour you never know. It's a constant worry. I'll see what he feels like when he gets up.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, carers, sad or worried who want them. DUMPLING have you got anything concrete in place yet re Becky coming home. MADDIEMAY how did you go on at the hospital? KARCHER are you ok? Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning All
It's cold and wet here, snow due tomorrow. Thought I had missed that when I was away.
Washing on the pulley, downstairs bathroom cleaned, will do the upstairs one when I go for a shower. Should also throw the hoover about.
I need to go and buy heat logs today, I'll have a look at the wool whilst I'm there, going to see if I can knit a cusion cover, the knitted ones I like cost about £25.
Dumpling - make sure everything is in place before Becky comes home.
Happy new car Nanny!
Hope everyone's well (or recovering), take care. XX0 -
Family are coming round for lunch today and got up early to prepare a large topside of beef for the oven. Did not sleep very well so might have half an hour's nap before prepping veg, roast potatoes and batter for yorkshire puddings Not sure whether to make stuffing balls as youngest dd loves them.
TA
I hope your DH feels a bit better today and can enjoy his food.
dumpling
Fingers crossed that a good care plan is thought out and put into place.
Have had a lovely three days with dds, sil, their bfs popping in and staying over and am enjoying it but once I am on my own I plan to put my feet up.
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"

Good morning all :A
One of the sleep in gang too got up at 7 for the loo but snook back for a warm and it was 9 when I woke
Had a good day on the house yesterday and cooked some lamb tandoori which was lush with the slaw and raita. My mince pies were not quite as successful and you certainly know they are home made but they are edible me and pastry just dont rub along well together at all
Making Fish pie and apple crumble for the freezer today with a couple of portions for mum. Wii grab out some turkey and roast potatoes for dinner. Also got to portion out all the mince beef and bacon that I got from Costco this week.
House jobs will be kitchen and rest of downstairs but at a slightly slower pace today as hip is really painful
have a lovely day all :A0 -
nmlc - thank you for the new thread, best wishes for a steady improvement for your mum.
Elona - enjoy your family time, but do make time for that rest. Dumpling, Csarina, LaineyT, thinking of you and sending positive thoughts to you and your loved ones.
TA - I hope that Mr TA feels better today, such a worry for you all the time. Thank you for asking about the hospital. I had a great appointment with the Endocrinologist, the Professor himself no less, he was brilliant, great manner, explained everything so well to us and offered, before I got to ask, to arrange for the tests that he needs to be done in my locality even though it would be easier for him if they were done at the QE. So more tests (bone scan) ultra sound on kidneys etc to determine if it will be a watching brief or if surgery to remove a Parathyroid gland will be necessary.
OH has gone out, I have decided not to join the group for coffee today, but will have a girlie morning with the dog LOL and try and tick a few things off my to do list, interspersed with many cups of tea. (I really should cut back, perhaps I should get some decaf tea).
Have a good Sunday, whatever the weather! The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Morning all
Bit over cast here but with a good breeze. OH's work clothes are in the wash atm and I have stripped the beds and will put that in after it can all be hung out for a while today, the towels I washed yesterday need 5 mins in the td to finish off.
Not sure about dinner today but I fancy a jacket spud so might do them with ham cheese and salad etc. We did a big shop in aldi yesterday so have plenty in.
I must paint the skirting today as I am working seven days next week and will not get a chance, and there are still four new sockets to go up, OH did another couple yesterday and there was much swearing :rotfl:so I told him to leave the rest till today.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Well last night was a fiasco at 2am we were drinking tea. OH had his breakfast and is now sleeping again. I have had to moan to get him to take his medication. I am sure he is suffering from short term memory loss as well as everything else!! I despair I wonder if he will ever be right again. I was hoping yesterday he was pulling out, but he is so dopy again this morning. I am wondering whether to ask the Dr if I can cut down on one of the medications he is taking.
Step son has never had much to do with his father since I blew him out some years ago over the way he was treating his Dad. SS thinks that as I married his dad its my job to do nothing except look after him. He has enough looking after his domineering mother. ss's ex partner is a vicious woman in the same mould as his mother, we have not seen any of the grandchildren or great grandchildren on that side since the middle of the 2000's.
Well thats got that off my chest, buckle down and get on with it is the message I seem to be getting.
Its a dull day, no laundry today thankfully, will do the veg for supper shortly, I need to take the pork off the bone to cook it for OH. roasties, carrot and cauliflower with it.0 -
Morning all,
Well thats the last time I fall asleep at tea time...I was trying to extract metal out of my finger at 3am. Cant see anything but can feel the clink of metal on my tweezers. Managed to get some more out but there's still a bit left in. Im using manuka honey on a poultice at the moment. I want to be able to bend my finger again. Is it too much to ask?
We have a lame hound. Gave them both a hoof trim this morning. Theyve both put on weight. My fault ive been giving them the tip of a teaspoon of this honey...its supposed to be good for them and at 11 and 12, both pedigree Cavaliers I hoped it would work wonders and at least help 'Blackuns' dry eye. Back on the diet they go.
Flu type symptoms are subsiding but I sound like a man.
Csarina I have a weird family too. If my name wasnt my username id explain more but I'm not totally anonymous.
I know if anything happened to Grump id be on my own too. That scares me somewhat.
Onwards and forwards
Have a great day allThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hello
Well it's Sunday already, where has the time gone this week ?
The weather is grey and damp and our internet is playing up again, so an engineer has been called. It's going the same way as it did last June.
Anyway enough moaning, Dad is coming and we are having roast pork for lunch with roasties and veg. Also found some Yorkies in the freezer so will dig some out . Tea will be a selection of sandwiches ( 'cos I like fish and the boys like meat / cheese ) and jam roly poly with custard ( thanks Aunt Bess). Can't remember the last time I had roly poly, mmmmmm  hope it's as good as I think it will be.
The veggies are prepped, so I'm having a quiet coffee while Mr Fix It is having his shower.
Not looking forward to telling Dad about the car as he will say he could have got one with less mileage etc for 5shillings 3 farthings. Gosh I can see a Harry Enfield sketch coming " you didn't want to buy that " :rotfl:.
Righty ho enough waffling must go and do something kitchenish.
Hope everyone has a good Sunday. Take care all.
Maddie glad your appointment went well.
TA hope Mr Ta perks up today.
Csarina many hugs coming your way
Judi gentle hugs to you
Redruby my skirting in the kitchen needs painting too, so could I book you in for next week
Love nanFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0
