puncture & damage due to pothole in road - advice
Options
OH rang earlier to say he had gone over a pothole in the road which had caused a puncture and damaged the alloy wheel. Last time we had to replace a wheel it was nearly £200 plus the cost of the tyre - we're looking at almost £300. What responsibility do the local authority have to repair holes in the road?

Successful claims have been made, if the pothole has been reported previously it makes your case a lot lot easier.0

There's a website (below) where potholes can be reported - this is one way to check whether the local authority was aware of the problem. Other ways include asking them directly or if that doesn't yield any information, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.
The local authority also has a duty to check roads regularly so there's that course of action if that hadn't been carried out.
FillThatHole.org.uk - also contains map of all reported hazards

My OH who works in Legal insurance seems to think that you could have a case against the council - expect a fight though! Also, make sure you get a good picture of the hole ASAP as councils tend to sneakily fix the hole so you cant collect evidence - include a ruler so the picture shows how big the hole is.0
