Santander - ground rent query

Afternoon all,

We've recently applied for a re-mortgage with Satander via a broker. AIP all went swimmingly and they've accepted our proof of income, etc. but they are questioning our ground rent expenditure. Our ground rent is peppercorn, so we don't pay anything per month/year. Our broker spoke to their admin team and explained the situation, and Santander have now passed our application to their underwriters to see if it is acceptable. Apparently their admin team had not seen this before.

Am I wrong to think this is really strange? I thought peppercorn ground rent was quite common these days. I presume this shouldn't be a problem?

Thanks in advance.
