Does anyone here take the train regularly to Dublin. If so is it very cramped/noisy/generally on time?
Also, I can't seem to find any price of a annual ticket. Anyone know if its possible to purchase such a long term ticket?
Thanks

I can only give my experiences from a few years ago when it was never on time and always packed, not cheap either.
Write to the Belfast Telegraph about it and Ciaran Rogan, the Translink Media Officer, will reply to the paper, he does it every time someone complains there about TranslinkNorn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0 -
I've used it a few times over the last year and I've no complaints except the loos can be a bit yuck. Other than that it's by far the easiest quickest least stressful way to get into Dublin city centre. I use Tesco clubcard vouchers to pay for the tickets.Stercus accidit0

People commute regularly to dublin, and from memory they at very least do a monthly ticket which works out quite reasonably. I dont recall the dublin train ever being cramped - well compared to regular trains anyway. :rolleyes:0 -
Just depends when you get it.
If students are going home for the weekend/going back to Uni...it's a flippin' nightmare!
I've seen me have to pay through the nose to sit on my bag in the connecting hall (about 3' wide) between carriages. Ciaran Rogan doesn't tell you about that when he writes to the papers.
In saying that, can be fine during the week.0 -
I've been taking it a few times lately. Since it's for work I've just picked up a ticket at the time so nothing to say on annual tickets etc. But I've found it to run like clockwork (touch wood). It can be busy, and it is worth getting there a bit early to try to get towards the start of the queue but if you're travelling alone odds are you'll get a seat if you aren't fussy about where. Sometimes it's busy with older people who are making the most of cheap day returns and free passes and they're mostly fine. But you do get stag and hen parties drinking as well, even sometimes first thing in the morning, and that is less fun. Apparently friday evening is horrible for this, never had to do it myself. The other thing to know is that the snacks trolley is pretty expensive. I'd def bring my own if it wasn't on expenses!0

Does anyone remember the good old days when they had endless bombs/ bomb hoaxes, works, unannounced stoppages (ie train stopping with no-one telling us why or for how long) and you regularly had to get off the train to get a bus to the next town and get on the train again. Ah, the fun we had....Stercus accidit0

Nothing to do with train journey, (and I know you wouldn't want to do this every day) but I drove from Belfast to Dublin a couple of weeks ago (for the Police concert at Croke Park) and the journey time was 2hrs and the only hold-up was on the approach to the City Centre, (I only found out later I could have gone through the tunnel and avoided that). Hadn't driven down for a few years, but with the new road complete it's fantastic, and the 2hrs flew in because it's such a straight easy route.0

And breaking down on the border with all power failed. Toilets full and overflowing, drunken sports fans urinating in the doorways, waiting 2 hours for another train to push you to Newry, get off there, wait an hour for another train to take you to Belfast, arriving at midnight at midnight instead of 7.30, then Translink not even bothering to reply to a written complaint.
Happy days :rotfl:Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0
