JSA and training courses.

If someone is on JSA and been offered a place on a week long residential course( obviously work/ job related) , will they be able to claim from the discretionary fund from JCP, for meals and travel as this is not provided?
Job coach at job centre has helped get the place on course.
Thanks

Anyone can apply to the discretionary fund, whether they are successful will depend on what funds the particular JCP has available to it. You may get a travel permit, but meals are unlikely because you'd need to eat whether you are on the course or not (you can take food with you that you can make in your room).

Food for a week using just a kettle in the room is pushing it slightly.
Does the place have any cooking facilities?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

No cooking facilities available, food is on pay as you dine basis, and is very reasonably priced.

There's plenty you can do without a kettle, and even more with one.

OP can easily get by on the same food budget that they do at home, including eating out occasionally, they just need to think ahead.

It wouldn't kill anybody to live on cereal, sandwiches and salad for a week.

Place of work not providing meals is very normal, I make my own salad for work, if i was on JSA i wouldnt be able to afford a salad (i could stomach) every day.

When i was on JSA i used to volunteer 4 days a week, 9 till 5. I simply made sandwhiches for work, warburtons thins and a very decent fillings..... i could have made £££ on the side as everyone who saw them wanted one.

If you know where to shop and what to buy you can do well. Claiming Disc. payment didnt cross my mind as i would have had to feed myself whether i was at home or at work.

I HIGHLY doubt you will get anything to feed yourself during the day as that is what your JSA is for, I have no doubt you'll get assistance with Travel as its only the week.
