Hi, thanks for all your advice. I’ve just had a thought and wondering if this is effecting my pay - my previous job which I worked in from February - October I only earned £8372. So for the tax year starting April 2017 I would have only earned around £6000-£7000? My tax code is 1150L so I get a tax free allowance of £11,500 right? (Correct me if that’s wrong I don’t know much about this!)

So could this be why I haven’t been taxed in my new job? (I started in October)

How much did you pay in tax during this tax year in your previous employment? Do you have this info from your P45 or last payslip?

Based on the figures you've given (and it is very 'rough figures') I reckon your total income for the year will be £14,500 - £15,000. If we work on the midway point £14750 then your tax liability is £650.00. If you've paid this amount already then it may be that HMRC have calculated that you don't owe anymore. There is a lot of guesswork here though. Best query with your employer and if they cant answer it, contact HMRC (for your own sanity you may want to wait until Thursday for that - they'll be a bit busy answering calls between now and then!)

The tax free allowance of £11500 is only yours at the end of the tax year, as the tax year progresses you get a proportion of this.
If you really want advice here then you have to give the figures required.
Have you checked your taxable gross to date as I suggested to see if it includes earnings from last employment?

Based on those last two posts then, it looks like error. Speak to your employer first and if they cant resolve it, call HMRC.

You will 100% need to repay this tax though so put it to one side when you get paid.

You're on course to earn £16k plus in this tax year (assuming you've been paid for January already) meaning you'll pay circa £900 in tax for the year. So far you've paid £250 according to your figures above.

Did you hand a P45 to the new employer ? It sounds like they did not use it. What does your latest payslip state for YTD earnings ?
£250 is the correct tax for £7964 at October. You should have been paying around £128 tax per month on £1600 so at the end of Jan you owe around £385.

Is that your last payslip from your previous job or is it Dec or Jan at your new job.

Do you have your copy of the P45 from your previous job?

These figures suggest that this is the pay for month 7 (paid between 6 Oct to 5 Nov) on 1150L accumulative tax code. I would also assume that they do not include pay and tax from last employment.
If these assumptions are correct then you have under-paid tax. The amount under-paid will be 20% of the taxable gross from your old employment less any tax paid in that employment. So from part 1A of your P45 divide the gross figure by 5 and from that deduct the tax figure.
