Fasthosts late payment charge - is it fair?

Hello!

I'm a long time subscriber to the email but this is my first forum post so here goes...
I look after several websites and domains for family members, all of which are registered with Fasthosts internet. I have my debit card stored on file with them so any invoices come out automatically, however I recently got a new card and a payment on the old one failed. I got an email asking to pay within 7 days, but I was away down south at the time and filed it for later, obviously forgetting about it. So yesterday I get a suspension notice and a demand for payment, which I actioned immediately and its all now sorted.

The problem is they're trying to charge me £20+VAT for missing the payment by more than 7 days. They claim this was clearly stated in every email they sent, but who reads past the first few lines? They claim the reason for this is because unpaid accounts require intervention from staff that could otherwise be supporting customers. Whilst I could partly understand this I'm not sure its true - the whole system looks automated to me, and even so £20 was a few minutes of someones time is a bit steep.

Anyone have any advice on whether this charge is acceptable? If not what would be the best approach to challenge it?

Cheers!
Rory

  • Hi

I would be interested to know this too. I have been charged £23.50 for a late payment of £4.69!!!! How can they justify this??

I have complained to them but from reading various forums, I don't stand a chance.
