Apple cider vinegar for weight loss?

Hi
I’ve read that if you have some apple cider vinegar with ‘the mother’ then it helps with weight loss. Apparently it’s important to have ‘the mother’ ingredient in the vinegar. Intrigued I thought I’d give it a go. I put about 30mls in a glass with water then glug it down as obviously it’s very acidic and sour. I did this every day over Christmas and new year then yesterday I weighed myself. I’d lost over 6lbs and hadn’t really missed out on too many treats over the festive period. The vinegar was cheap and bought in a supermarket. Has anyone else tried this - have I found a great solution to weight loss?

It's a pile of rubbish based on quackery. I first came across it on the my fitness pal forums months ago. The people there who know a lot about diet are incredibly scathing about it.

    Your loss was probably water.

    Sorry to be so blunt.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Hi - thanks - it’s good to get an opinion. I don’t think it will do me any harm though to keep taking it. Normally like a lot of people I put a bit of weight on over Christmas and I probably ate the same amount as I do every year. I don’t drink alcohol so that’s not a factor. But ....... I did loose weight after having the vinegar everyday. I think I’ll keep taking it - it’s cheap and you never know - my weight loss might continue lol x

Years ago when I had a skin condition and nothing worked, I read on a forum that taking cider vinegar with mother helped. So I bought some and was religiously taking it each day. After 6 months I gave up (pity I didn't lose weight in the process).

My skin cleared up on its own after a couple of years anyway.

I have been reading about A.C.V recently, supposed to have more health benefits than just weight loss. Where did you buy yours from please?
Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

You can buy cider vinegar in virtually any supermarket. Tesco for example.

My wife tried it for a while. It made no noticeable difference.

Well I read it's beneficial to your liver, and your liver does play a vital role in breaking down fats. So if your liver was overworked from Christmas, then it may help. I was thinking of trying it as they said it helps if you've had your gallbladder removed. Not sure how much weight loss quality it has, but to make your liver healthier it seems to be up there as one of the things to have.

Where as I do not believe it has any benefits to weight loss, I suffer from severe reflux on multiple tablets daily 6 months ago I tried taking a shot of A.C.V which made my Reflux a lot worse at first but now I hardly take any meds and rarely get acid reflux attacks,

However the stuff I buy is quite expensive as the best possible effects come from organic versions and the best 1 on the market is available in quite a few places, the one i use is Bragg it is holland and Barrat at £6.99 a bottle but it is not as acidic as other ones but you can get it in their penny sale occassionally so 2 bottles for £7 a nicer 1 to drink as a shot is Bragg with the mother (both versions have it) and honey but the honey version is £11.99 for 475 mls

Not with the mother tho, that is in places like H&B etc

Why does everyone want a quick fix for weight loss? What is wrong with eating less & healthily & exercise? It could harm you to keep taking it, yes.

Online it talks about how apple cider vinegar helps to cleanse and detoxify the liver but that's the job of the liver and kidneys! :rotfl: It's all quakery.

I use apple cider vinegar as an occasional hair rinse.

Vinegar with the mother might be doing something to/for your gut bacteria. If you think it's helping, stick with it, but also keep up the keeping an eye on what you eat drink & do.

Also consider "feeding" the mother to create more apple cider vinegar without having to keep buying & resupplying. (Very Greek, but I'd have to google the How!) Just like any fermentation process, for pity's sake keep it Clean lest you grown your own toxins.

    Best of luck!
