I can't believe this one hasn't been posted here yet (apologies if it has already). Full credit goes to the original poster on the DVD Forums (where there is currently a huge thread).
Basically for any one already with Sky, who wants Sky+, Sky are offering refurbished Sky+ boxes with free installation for £49. To get this offer most people have had to phone up customer services and say they have heard about the £49 Sky+ offer, the customer service chap will then say that they don't know what you are talking about so you need to say that you are considering canceling with them - you will then be put through to the cancellation dept where they will offer you the £49 upgrade.
Useful points -
1) If you don't already subscribe to 2 or more premium channels Sky will charge you £10 and month for the privilege of using Sky+. One way round this is to subscribe to 2 premium channels costing roughly an extra £10 a month. The best choice is package 1J which is the family package (usually £19.50/month) plus the premium channels Sky Sports 1+3 and Sky Movies 2,4,6,8 (which is an extra £10.50/month) making a monthly subscription of £30/month all in.
2) They will try the hard sell on sky multi room for another £10/month, if you don't want this, one sure fire way around it is to say you only own 1 TV set!
3) To call customer services is a national rate number (08702404040
), however if you dial 0800 7312079 then option 2, then option 4 you can get through to them on a free phone number!
4) (I hope it's ok to show this) The thread at the dvdforums is at :
http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=369417
5) I don't think this offer applies to Sky users who are still within their original 12 month contract period - but don't quote me on this.
Good luck!

I've been wanting to upgrade to Sky+ for ages now. If I can get it for under £50 I'll be dead chuffed.
I'll give em a call tonight.

We were going to wait until next month to upgrade to Sky+ but this is such a great deal that I just rang them up! Our Sky at the moment quite often freezes and we have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work.
I asked Sky to put me through to the Cancellations Department and told them this. I also said that as I was unwilling to pay a couple of hundred quid for a new box could I cancel my Sky package. He then offered me the £49 deal which I accepted and will be having the £30 per month package with Sky Sports 1 & 3 and some movies. He also gave me £7.74 credit because of my faulty equipment and the fact that I have to wait until June 2nd for my new box! This is great! Thanks a lot Gromet, you've saved us some money here!
The operator did also say, however, that this offer is ending on 2nd June so anyone thinking of doing it needs to act within the next week.0
