Second hand car on PCP?

Hi - Wondering if anyone had had a similar experience/can help.

I bought a used car from an official dealership of the car brand using PCP finance (the thing where there’s a guaranteed final value at the end).

Being a second hand car, obviously there were a few scarapes and scratches on the car already.

As you’ll know if you’re familiar with PCP, at the end of the payment period I can hand the car back and not have to pay the final lump sum instalment. However, money is deducted from this/charged to me for any damage to the car.

I expected that when I bought the car that they would do a similar check/documenting of damage as when I hire a car - so that I wouldn’t be charged for existing damage when I return the car.

So, my question - has anyone else bought a second hand car on PCP? Did they document the existing damage? Was it an issue when your returned the car?

Many thanks for any thoughts/help/shared experiences!

Gareth.

  • Have you made a document with photos? At the time of purchase?
  • Hi - Yes, I took some photos, and emailed them to the dealership, but there were some other issues with the purchase so was a bit discltrscyed and didn’t include everything.

I’m just wondering what the usual process is / if they should have done a hire car style check at the time of sale.

You certainly should have, then there could be no ‘misunderstandings’. Trust no one, and you won’t go far wrong.
    Works for me. :)
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.
