Have you looked into insulation, and can the local/national government and the electricity and gas companies help out? We insulated something every year, and could feel the house getting warmer after every insulation that was added.Are you wombling, too, in '22? € 58,96 = £ 52.09Wombling in Restrictive Times (2021) € 2.138,82 = £ 1,813.15Wombabeluba 2020! € 453,22 = £ 403.842019's wi-wa-wombles € 2.244,20 = £ 1,909.46Wombling to wealth 2018 € 972,97 = £ 879.54Still a womble 2017 #25 € 7.116,68 = £ 6,309.50Wombling Free 2016 #2 € 3.484,31 = £ 3,104.590

I'm not looking forward to the hassle factor, but in 12 months time it will be worth it.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

This may sound a bit bonkers but if the back of my neck and my wrists are warm my body is warm.
I don't have a thyroid and my body thermostat can be a bit hit and miss but when I am cold if I add a scarf and long sleeved cardi (or similar) I stay warm.
Good luck on your quest!0 -

Ouch! I don't know if you've come across the pet equivalent of a hotwater bottle? The snuggle safe heat pad is in effect a round brick that you put in the microwave to heat up and then put it into a fleecy cover. They're pretty hard, so not something you can wrap round yourself, but good to put your feet on and shouldn't give you burn marks. (PS The dog found it very suspicious and turfed it out of his bed, I didn't deliberately steal it from the dog.)0 -
I am pleased to say that my home is now a pleasant temperature. Its a combination of different things:
- fully insulating and boarding the loft which was expensive but so necessary;
- investing in lovely warm Aldi throws to avoid having to switch my room fires on (the electricity vs gas bill in January was a bit of a shocker), and;
- working with nature by letting the heat from the conservatory into the rest of the house has helped, as have lots of unseasonably warm and sunny days
The thermostat is now dialled down to 16 and I am happy :dance:. I fully expect to turn it up in the winter, but for now I think I've cracked it.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Wrist warmers are incredibly effective for cold hands - at least they are for me. My workplace is pretty chilly (not illegally so, just too cold for me!) and I found my hands got so cold that it was hard to type. Gloves - even the fingerless sort - aren't practical but I read online that keeping your wrists warm can help with cold hands, so I bought a couple of pairs of wrist warmers and they really have made a difference.0 -
The temperature has noticeably dropped since last week and I find myself in the unenviable position of not knowing where it is I have put my HWB, even after a good 1/2 hr of searching
I had filled and boiled the kettle, and everything

Hi...I too struggle with the cold. We live in an open plan 1980s build and I don't like central heating so we don't have it.
The house is very warm as it has low ceilings. Others on the estate say they don't have their heating on much because of the insulation. We are powered by gas fire in living room and gas wall heaters in bedrooms.
We have found the bedroom wall developed a crack and felt warm to the touch. Gas man has been out and thinks it's the brick used for the wall of the fire has weakened over time. Seems to be a fault on the small estate we live. We got an electric fire in place of the gas one but I felt the cold last year even though DH was sat there in t-shirt whilst I'm under a blanket with fleece top and hb. I think it may be bit of over thinking the cold with me. It wasn't until I started to wear thermal tshirts under my clothes and on occasion a scarf that my body temp started to feel better.
We've talked about underfloor heating in the living room as we've had a water heater installed in last year, bathroom last year nd kitchen in last 4 years so don't want to rip everything out . We have u/floor heating in bathroom and love it but we will wait I think, until there is a proper cold snap to see how to go. It's never an easy reasonably priced option, heating but looking at affordable options is also mind boggling.I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0
