Honestly it IS useful - plenty of free ones out there. THe paid ones will of course be at the top. There are also free templates in Word - I had a look and there are about 6 different ones, but I didn't recommend these as I thought if you were new to the field you'd have problems deciding between Americanised formats.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Well it wouldn't have been that hard to do a forum search for past posts neither.

Different strokes for different folks who fit I guess. Isn't that the MSE way

It's difficult to recommend a particular type of CV layout without knowing what you want to put into it and how you intend to use it. While most people will by default choose a straightforward time based CV there are other options, such as skills based, that can be more suitable. You really need to look at a variety of options and pick one that you think would be the best for your circumstances.

There are a tonne of free ones on https://www.cvtemplatemaster.com/
Not all appropriate for the UK but plenty of simpler designs that are fine.

    I'd recommend the reed.com one https://www.reed.co.uk/career-advice/free-cv-template/ .

Nice and simple layout and also gives you a bit of guidance on how to use it.
