Thanks emincosi :j I decided last night to move my diary across to the 'debt free diaries' area - as I didn't think it belonged here! https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/74047454#Comment_74047454

I'm reviving this thread as found the support really helpful before! So a little update on my savings diary...

    House
We've still not found a house yet this year - we really thought this year was going to be the one but the housing market has been really quiet. I was getting a little worried as we are still living in my in-laws house rent free (they moved to Scotland and will be selling the house when we leave), but after speaking to them last week, they have signed a new rental agreement that leads them up to September 2019. This has put my mind at ease a bit, but I still feel under pressure, and to be honest we just want our own place now as feel like we are still living in someone else's house (they still have all of there stuff there).

We're currently not touching the house fund, which includes adding anymore too it. Every month our transfer goes out for our Help to Buy ISA's so it matures £100 a month due to the bonus. Although I am thinking of rounding it up to a nice whole number to 19K this month but will see how my spending goes first!

    Budgets
Budgets wise I think we have been doing ok-ish. I have a spreadsheet now every month that I set out my budgets, and any time I spend on my personal or joint account, I put it on the spreadsheet. I have no idea how I kept track of my money before this!! Last month went a little bit south, as we had an expensive vets bill, but all this meant was that we couldn't put as much into the savings account.

    Food
Food shopping has gotten a bit ridiculous, theres only two of us and two cats which comes out of this too, so I want to get that back under control in August. I've been getting lots of quick meals and being lazy so this needs to be stopped. In my defence, part of that has been because I've been so busy at work - we are down a member of staff in my team so I've been taking on a lot more than usual, and the last thing I want to do it cook a meal from scratch (especially in this heat!!!).

    Savings
So because of the vets bill our savings took a bit of a hit, but as of today I've hit 40% of my target with £2441.80 of 6k! Annoying that it would be nearly 3k if I hadn't had the bill but these things happen and the cats health is more important. I should however be up to 3K by the end of August, so that's something to look forward too.

I hope you've all been enjoying the sun, it's been gorgeous here in Norfolk and it certainly makes up for us not going abroad this year :T

The weather has taken a bit of a turn, but I've been secretly grateful so that we could cool the house down over the weekend. We had a quiet one, lots of TV and laying around as I wasn't feeling too great, and a quick trip to The R*nge and Sainsbobs on Sunday. We needed a curtain rail for our bedroom as fed up of our blind that keeps breaking - I have some curtains under the bed from our previous place we can use, as didn't really want to buy anymore. Mr Rawr will hopefully do that this week, although will probably be the weekend now!

I forgot a few things shopping on Friday hence the trip to sainsbobs, I'm out of the swing of things at the moment. Hoping to be a bit better next week. No other news to report as of yet. I got a couple of orders for some Save The Dates so that will be my focus once the card I need has arrived. The 'side business' has been ticking over nicely, although would be nice to get a few more orders now and again. My mum got made redundant last month so would be really good to get the orders up so that this could support her full time, but sadly it's not an overnight thing! We're not taking money out of the business at the moment as wanting to build it up and still buying little things we need - but would be great if she could make a drawing if he needed it.

    Current Savings: £2561.81 (42.70% of 6K)
    Current House Savings: £18,932.02
    Expendable Income left: £217.42
    Food Budget left: £110.08

Hope you all had a fab weekend. It was another weekend spent in for us. We've been looking at holidays, as we are getting fed up of not having a proper holiday so are looking to go away in Feb for some Winter sun. It always gets to February time and we start getting fed up of the Winter dreariness, so are just looking to go to Fuertuventura for a week self catering. I'm not looking to dip into the savings to pay for this; instead £300 is coming from Mr Rawr which was money given to him from his mum, and I'll pay the other half out of my personal spending account. At the moment, I have £217 left of expendable income until 25 August, so the less I spend of that, the more can go towards the holiday.

Savings are on track, another £100 of Mr Rawrs Standing order on Friday, and I got a nice energy cashback payment which I shoved in their too.

I've over spent on food I think so far this month, so will have to reign it in to cover the last two weekly shops of the month, which should be easily done.

It's my birthday this Wednesday, it'll be a quiet one as not a special number or anything. Will probably go shopping in Norwich on Saturday and get some lunch from somewhere.

    Have good weeks! :)

Yesterday I celebrated my 26th Birthday

I think birthdays are great for reflection and me and Mr Rawr had a really good chat about what we'd like to achieve in the next year. We're obviously hoping to find a house within the next year, but we're also hoping that we'll reach that 6K by Christmas and then we can start trying for a little Rawr! This is exciting for me. I've always wanted to start a family, and feel like I've waited a long time already!

So the next few months focus will be saving as much as we can, and also me eating as well as I can and generally being a bit healthier. That's after we've finished the birthday cake... :rotfl:

Happy with how the savings are going so far - plus the house fund has hit the 19K mark :T We're off to see a house tonight, which is the first one we are looking at since around April time so we are quite excited and have got our hopes up far too high as usual!

Expendable income wise I'm doing very well for me as I only have until 25th to payday - but the downside is I seem to have spent in the food budget instead :( will need to sort this out next month. I know exactly what it is - I did an online shop a a specialist store and it cost as much as a weeks shop but you don't get a lot. Won't be doing that again anytime soon. I think I'll have to get the shopping and cat food on Friday out of my money - which will hopefully make me not spend too much as it's out of my personal account. Anything left over will go into the savings, which at this rate should be over £100 :)

Who knows, we could be putting in an offer for a house come tomorrow!
