I have recently widened our driveway to make it more comfortable for cars to fit. Our tarmac is very old and little crumbly, as I found out when using a kango drill to take a wall down..... so the main bit and the new stoney are will need a good resurfacing. Does anyone have any recommendations for reputable tarmac companies? Belfast area.

Obviously keen to avoid the unregulated type... :rotfl:

No recent experience so can’t recommend, but think about springing the bit extra and have asphalt. Much more durable.

aren't asphalt and tarmac the same thing...? I mean, technically, "asphalt" is the bitumen (tar) which holds the whole thing together, but the UK tends to use it as a synonym for tarmac...

That’s like saying Fiat and BMW are the same thing, they’re both cars.

Sounds like marketing to me, since the "tar" in tarmac is bitumen (asphalt)... It's just ways of referring to different mixes, all of which are basically "tarmac" - though probably don't use the originally patented method...

20 years down the line and the difference is pretty obvious!

I had my driveway done by Joe Crilly from Newtownards (07752474098). Very friendly and would happily recommend him. I'm not sure if its tarmac or asphalt etc that he used but I am more than happy with the result and the price I paid (which was less than RS Contracts and Blakely).

My driveway was sunk in places and starting to crumble and he fixed it all and left it very tidy and the surface run off in to the drains is bang on.
