Insurance

I am worried that if I go bankrupt and end up eventually moving in with my partner, she will have to declare that she now lives with somebody who is bankrupt and we feel that this will affect the Buildings and contents insurance. This is currently with Zurich. Any ideas around this or suggested insurance companies to use.

Comments

  • She will have to declare it if asked or stated in the policy and the best advice is to contact a proper insurance broker (not the likes of Swinton).

I have my contents (and car insurance) through LV and there is nothing in there that mentions bankruptcy - there are probably other companies that are the same.
  • Its a long time since I saw an insurance application that asked if 'anyone in the property has ever been BR'. Its usually just the person applying if they want to pay by instalments that's asked. I've never had a problem with house insurance but as ever - always read the small print.

    Shouldn't be a problem.

But don't enter any joint financial product with her (loan, current account) for 6 years or your credit record may affect hers.

Never seen it asked on any household insurance application.

I kept the house insured throughout two periods of insolvency.

its only natural to worry about such things, but you will be fine.
