No - they're a good 2 1/2 hours away. But it'll keep until we see them again. Or we might be able to find another victim...No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

Step one complete - added the last of the cranberry juice to some leftover mulled wine, thus making enough for two (low alcohol) glasses. And OH has done his bit by hitting the J2O - one orange and one sparkle berry down.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

See if you can find a reduced price gammon and then cook it in the Coke. I've personally never done this as I like the stock for soup, but everyone I know who has says it's lovely0

You can't actually taste the coke when you cook the chicken in it. I absolutely hate coke but it's fine for chicken in coke. I do mine in the slow cooker using a whole chicken and a bottle of diet coke. You can also do pieces of chicken in a frying pan.

It's alcohol. It won't go off, so just keep it and DON'T buy any more.
Use the brandy/calvados/opened whisky/rum/cointreau/amaretto for baking fruit cakes. You can use gin, rhucello/limoncello etc for spongecakes and liqueur coffees are nice. The Pimms will be useful on the first hot day of the year. You can use tonic and soda water for baking as well.
Use particularly vile white spirits for cleaning/degreasing. Don't bother trying to make it palatable with buying fruit and sugar or sweets if you're only going to end up with a bottle of flavoured vodka/gin in the cupboard instead.
Wine is good for casseroles.
If it's dark rum, you could use a bit for making rum & raisin ice cream during the year. If it's white rum, you're on your own, as I have blurred memories of my first encounters with overproof, thanks to my next door neighbour's Granddad's fruit punch.
Lemonade is good for helping cut flowers last longer - doesn't matter if it's flat.
Just find somewhere to keep it all (I've kept such things in the shed, other people would use a garage or the back of a cupboard) - particularly the stuff you don't drink.
And remember, alcohol is a means of preservation - it won't go off, you just don't need to buy fresh - your DH moaning he fancied something different is faintly ridiculous when you've got half a pub already.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I'd forgotten about the whole cooking with Coke thing. Will give that a try.
To be fair on OH, he didn't moan - just announced that he fancied a cider. We quite often have some in, we just don't happen to have it at the moment.
This evening we've had a glass of wine each. Mine was a glass of red made up from what was left of two opened bottles, and OH's was a glass of white from another opened bottle.
I realise that the alcohol keeps - heck, we've had some of it for years - but it struck me as daft to be buying wine regularly when we have so much other alcohol available for nothing. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

We're in much the same position as you with a full cupboard of alcohol. I've still got various bottles of things like Amaretto and Eau de Vie that I should use up.
I generally try to limit my drinking to weekends and just recently I've been having at least one day on gin. DH does the same, having whisky or bourbon instead of wine. Keeping the calories down has motivated me but it's very mse to use up what you have in too.0 -
I might be the only person resolving to drink more next year!
I got back into the habit this month, and seem to be tolerating it better than I thought I mightValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

That's an impressive alcohol list!! I'm a gin drinker myself so maybe try gin and tonic with ice and lemon, that's a nice wine alternative. Or you can use lemonade for a sweeter taste.0
