It would depend on the expectation of the person giving the money. If they have given the money with the expectation of getting it back it is debt. If not it is not debt. That doesn't mean you can't choose to give it back in due course.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0

I would count it as a debt to be paid before any owed to a finance company.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0
