I am building an emergency pot and then self managing my DMP. Scary thought but plan to enter this more prepared with some emergency money

I am also cutting out as much wasteful spending (coffee, lunch etc) and putting the money in a pot so I can treat self during the year

I will not be spending another winter in this house ( I did say that last year and failed)
I'm still continue the work of last year, nothing on credit and get ahead enough on my household bills that I can pay the council tax in it's yearly entirety rather than over 10 months. I don't know why but that's become important to me to get a year ahead of myself.

Personally, I being DF already class myself not as a DFW but a DFS (Debt Free Stayabee). I use many of the techniques from here.
    My resolutions this year are:
To start build up my savings. I am working towards my 6 months savings this year. Then will build up long term savings.
To restrict amount I spend on things like chocolate- better for my pocket and waist line.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Our plans for this year are:
    1. Stick to our budget spreadsheet.
    2. Become debt free.
    3. Open a Lifetime ISA each to save for our first house deposit.
    4. Save the full 8k allowance over both ISAs.
    5. Sabe a further 7k in a regular ISA.
    6. Absolutely NO more debt. Zero. Nil. £0.
  • Clear my two CCJs (one stands at £970 and the other £500), and build up an emergency fund of 3 months salary.
  • 1. To get back to using this site frequently!!
    2. To clear CC (approx £3000)
    3. 2 complete NSDs a week (small I know but at the mo I don't do any!)

    :)
    Just keep swimming
  • The plan for this year will flow....hopefully:

    1. Decree absolute came through just before Christmas and finances were sorted in court so house on the market mid Jan.
    2. Sale of the house will clear all debts and set everything up for the future...from then on no credit card and attempt at frugal living.
    3. Complete parkrun 100, ideally end of Janaury
    4. Take my daughter on a good holiday, see loves wigwams, but after everything that has been going on she deserves more.
    5. Complete my EdD by March and start looking for a new job.

Arc2014...do you have a template for budget spreadsheet? I downloaded a few but they were all quite baffling!!

    I've used this one - http://www.scottishmultimedia.co.uk/Frugal/BlankSS.xls
Just changed a few of the headings, put in my amounts & it copies it through all the months. Gives running totals - it's fab!
  • 2018 is the year i will take control of my finances been in debt 1 way or another since i was 19 (now 45).

    1. Learn to budget and stick to it
    2. set up a spreadsheet (already done)
    3. after bills split spare cash into weekly envelopes and any spare cash left over can go in a jar and go towards my highest cc
Sealed pot member 095 SPC No 7 £578.32
sealed pot No 8 Target £750 TOTAL £1059.86:j
sealed pot no 9 Target £1200 TOTAL £1073.38:cool:
sealed pot no 10 Target £1200 TOTAL £1209
sealed pot No 11 target £1250 total £TBC
  • This may seem really small for my first goal but it is sort of money saving

    1) stop drinking coke ( I usually have at least one can a day and am on day 4 already of this one!)

    2) try to do at least one over time shift a month to try to clear my debt faster.

    3) less take always!
