    Can you delay starting your DMP so you can save an emergency fund? Generally £1000 is a good amount and will make your DMP easier to manage when the inevitable happens. If for two months you just put aside what you would have paid in debt repayments you should be there, so we aren’t talking a massive delay

    Would add if you’re really serious about this that you take the suggestion about an emergency fund seriously; things can and will go wrong unexpectedly and you need to have a way to deal with the inevitable that won’t leave you feeling desperate and miserable. An emergency fund is a key step in starting to take control of your finances again.
