I'd already decided next year to "get something different" every fortnight - but not cook an actual recipe. It might be something I've not eaten for 10-40 years (there's so much food, it's easy to forget), or just having a slightly different combination in a sandwich filling.
I figure for a person living alone once a fortnight is often enough else it's unachievable due to the vast raft of leftovers one would be creating behind one, cluttering up the freezer
Mine will be more "brand swaps" and "old favourites re-visited" than "new" ...0 -

You could be spot on with the left over problem PN for us oneskis.....I have enough left over turkey to feed an army atm ...I do however have a grateful mother who will eat anything I pass along and 2 biggish freezers so i am going to try something new to me once a week if I can(or like you something I haven't had for years ....I like that idea)

I may try a new recipe from here if I see something that sounds especially good (cheap, easy and requiring few ingredients).
As I am a oneski, I seldom cookbut I'm determined this will change next year. Whilst I don't eat rubbish, I don't have enough variety in my diet due to not bothering to actually cook most days.
This must change as I do believe my health is suffering'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -

Just had a skim through some cookbooks and the vast majority are “serves 4”. It’s not too hard to be selective about the recipes you do, then halve the quantities and eat 1 portion on the day and either refrigerate or freeze the other for a quick meal a few days later.0 -

Agree mr S... its all about planning really and thats not my strongest point ...I do think oneskis need more freezer space than families at the very least so they dont end up eating the same meal day after day.
Looking forward to seeing what every body chooses and the scores on the doors after the fact0 -

Oh gawd no! They need much less freezer space.
When I was about 12 our freezer broke down whilst on holiday. All the food was ruined so my mother bagged it all up to throw away Thing was she came across food that had been in there for 6/7 years. The vast majority of people if honest use the freezer as a dumping ground for stuff they don’t quite know what to do with and then forget about it. Out of sight out of mind.
I have rules about how long things can stay in the freezer i.e. nothing stays longer than 1 month. Yup I’m freezing a lot of air but it’s much cheaper than throwing out food that’s been damaged by being in there too long.0 -
Hello I would like to join in this challenge too please. I just seem to have lost my cooking mojo a bit. Maybe this is just the kick in the arris I need to start eating better. I did try buying something new every week for a while, but even that ended up a bit samey.
I do have quite a few cookery books but recently have tended to look things up online so it will be nice to spend some time flicking through them again
Look forward to trying some new food in the new yearMortgage and debt free0 -

I'm meticulous with organising my freezer:
everything that goes in is labelled and listed
everything that comes out is crossed off
I batch cook to fill the freezer. OH has requested bolognaise for New Year's Eve dinner so I'll do a batch either tomorrow or Friday.
I like to think that I'd still do the same if I were a oneski - I've done it for so long, I think it would be a hard habit to break.
No new recipes to report (although I've yet to browse the 2 books we had for Christmas), lots of stuff to eat up before I settle down to menu plan again.0 -
^^ what Pollycat said...2 freezers, one big list detailing which freezer, drawer, date added, portion size, number of - crossed off & added to and updated & reprinted every month.
