Bt default help and advice

Options
Checked my credit files to make sure they matched up and was surprised to find a BT default on equifax, for £95
Now did have a bt phone and broadband at the address I was renting at the time..but was given notice on the property so rang BT at the time and cancelled both accounts paid up what I owed..moved to another property
So on finding the default rang bt they had no records of any of my accounts as this was say almost 5 years old..
After a lot of phone calls and time they found out all the details I argued the point I had cancelled but they didn’t have any records on file because of the time limits, but they told me if I paid the outstanding balance they would up date there records and clear the default from my credit file. Now I was very clear that I didn’t want settled on the credit file I wanted it totally removed from the records so there would be nothing on the equifax,Yes sir It will be removed and no record will be seen..queried this with at least 4 different people from bt so I paid the bill, they told me it would take 30 days waited 40 still there rang again told me my payment had been declined further phone calls to BT for them to find the payment and tell me the same thing,it will be removed.another 30 days passed and they have not removed it just put settled.
Is there anything I can do the most annoying part is I would have been clear of any dept and defaults on my credit score this January so fed up
Any way any advice would be welcome

Did you not get a final bill, confirming closure of the account?

    Hi,

A good example of why you should of complained in writing to BT.

The people you spoke to on the phone may of had limited knowledge of how these things work, your issue should of been dealt with by BT’s compliance dept, not usually somewere that accepts phone calls, hence why you were given the run around.

Put everything they told you into a written complaint, send it to their compliance officer or compliance dept, they have 8 weeks to deal with the matter to your satisfaction, if they don’t, then complain to the ICO (information Commissioner’s Office), who deal with data issues.
