Are there any workers' rights when you are off sick for just one day or does it depend on the company you work for?

Your contract will have details on sick pay.0

It's a friend of mine. I'll try to find out about wording in contract. It seems that the rules had changed without any notice.0

I have seen some where the company will pay before SSP kicks in but there is a limit (quite a low one) on how many days in any 12 or even 24 month period they will pay.0 -
Unless there is something in the contract of employment, the only entitlement is to SSP (Statutory Sick Pay) if the person earns enough. There is no entitlement to SSP until the 4th day of sickness.0

Most contracts of employment say sick pay is discretionary even where the employer DOES pay it. So it's not necessarily true that rules have changed, even if they seem to have done so (IYSWIM).Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Lots of smaller companies only pay SSP, because the cost of paying for people off sick is too great, or to deter people having a duvet day!0
