I hope everyones moves are going well and without hitch, news from the other side of moving house is im broke again for the month and its nine days to payday, Its actually becomes quite nice that we hit a point and the DIY has to stop if we don't want to start a credit card debt. plenty of free jobs like weeding to keep us entertained over the next few days.
First of the bigger jobs coming up with taking out a stud wall and adding glazed double pocket doors ( ones that slide into the wall) between the living room and the dining that should let a lot more natural light into the kitchen.
Our permaculture area in the garden is now cleared enough I can actually plant something rather than just cutting back so can get the perpetual spinach and Swiss chard started and get the herbs and companion plants back in the ground Ive struggled to keep everything going in pots in this heat. we are supposed to have rain this morning but nothing turned up and the blue skies say is unlikely.

Tori, I want to put internal glass sliding doors in between a dining room and conservatory. I assume there is a rail at floor level and is it flat or a step-over? I like the fact that it is diy work and then change tack and save. You turned a negative into a positive

LL, yes I haven`t dared to start adding anything up yet but whatever happens I can already see my expenses at well over a thousand, even if I pull out. The trick certainly is to not be in debt and to save for what is needed. I wish I had not had to withdraw from actual savings this month. Easy to withdraw and hard to get it saved up again.

At what stage did you send money for searches? I had to send mine today, should have sent it a couple of weeks ago but missed that bit on the letter. £350 and I suppose a good thing for to be a smallish amount, it means that I will feel more secure when sending the big amounts for the house as the details will already be there. I also bought a new mattress this morning, pocket spring. I only knew that my spare bed was not at all good for my back after sleeping on it for 2 nights, I have already disposed of it. Fancy coverings are now off my bed and piled in a spare room, together with staging towels and bath mats. Photos and EA are over and I have some respite until exchange on my new house and boy do I need it, it was a stressful couple of weeks

Next step is, I suppose to get some removals quotes. A bit different in my case as I am removing portions at a time and a small luton might do for the garage. Time for me to make a spenditure chart wrt me moving. Cost me £60 for the epc

Kittie the pocket doors run on a rail at the top and a bar down the length for stability so its just a normal door threshold , our sliding doors from the kitchen to the conservatory have rails top and bottom so its a step over.
One small annoyance with the sliding doors is there is one corner you can't get into clean, on the whole its not noticeable but I know its there so it bugs me.
im finally getting so time off so im taking my mum for her first trip to Ikea, knowing how she shops its going to be a long day, its been 18months since I last had a full week off so plan on making savings by not doing anything else but pottering around at home :)

My first post on here for July I think, certainly it hasn't been a "making savings" month. I failed to budget for my son staying:o, had my deck repaired, both my garden hose & printer died, I early ordered a butcher's delivery due to special offer and my home insurance was due so it has been spend, spend, spend so far. Thankfully I have pots to cover it all but can't wait until the 30th when I next get my pension and I can balance my spreadsheet and do my pot shuffling.:)

Our solicitor held £250 at engagement then we settled the searches and stamp duty at exchange.
It is so much easier when you don't have to move in a day, we did it over a couple of weeks but still ended up living with boxes, in hindsight I should of got DH to lay the attic flooring before me moved in, but we are slowly getting there

It really is spend spend spend some months. Its so good to be here and restrained rather than flying by the seat of pants. I don`t know how people stay out of debt without a spreadsheet or somesuch. I have just put birthday money into an envelope to take tomorrow, will have to do it again next week and will also send the second card to a dil who never says thank you for a present. I did that with a sil a few weeks ago and there will be one more to go next february. The first time is the hardest but if people cannot be bothered to say thank you, then I won`t be bothered spending

Times have changed for me, they all had two equal good chunks of money, the last one was a year ago and from then on it really was a widow pensioner spending less. They won`t moan and they accept anything gratefully and in good grace but will have to get used to it, no more money chunks

I'd be lost without my spreadsheet, as usually pay by credit card (and settle every month) my bank balance doesn't reflect how much money I actually have or have spent. My spreadsheet helps me put the brakes on splurges (most of the time....;))
There's no reason kittie why grown up children should be expecting periodic lump sums, I'm sure yours appreciate what they have had so far.
