  • Morning chapsesses and chaps!

Hope this year is fun filled, moneyfilled, mindful and full of kindness (and reduced stickers) all year long.

Busy morning chez flowerboot cottage. Still got a houseful. Starnac thank you very much that's very very kind.

Ovens been on since early so we've made the most of it by baking croissants (reduced! YAY!) with sausage pots (reduced to 10p thank you 10p-lady).

Started on sticky toffee pud (10p cooking butter - huzzah) - and its in with some reduced aubergenies to cook away.

Pork (reduced) is out and sorting it out the now - its needing scored and salted. Roots to chop and then get than in the oven after the sticky toffee.

Last nights nibbles were fridged overnight and I've made some stock from the chicken wings which works like a charm. Will get that drained and prob use for stock for the pork later.

Loving having folks around to cook for.

Managed to bag up last of the dates, will freeze them later.

Got sugar etc from HB - and a few extra bits. Home fires are on, heating is off.

Bit of a mixed bag of weather today - was hoping to walk. We'll see.

Budgets to do later and a meal plan.

Guests tomorrow have been cancelled as one is choked with the cold/flu and as we have hoppital on Friday I can't be exposed nor can me wee ma. So whilst I'm cooking what we planned, half to 3/4 of it will be frozen. We'll do it again soon, I just can't risk it.

Now off to sort out that sticky toffee pud, check banks and think about budgets.........have a good one!

Happy New Year, Pippi. Goodness, you've been busy!
Thanks for the recipe. I'm a bit of a freestyle cook as well (drives my son mad when I say just throw in a bit of this or a bit of that) but now I have the basics for tartiflette I can do it. Great way of using up leftovers. I do something similar with layers of potato, cooked mackerel and something oniony cooked in cream. Rich but delicious.
Have a lovely day and I hope Mum's appointment goes well.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.

Happy New Year everyone! Hope it's the best it can be! Pippi we are all behind you every money-saving step of the way : )
  • Morning

Lovely to see you WBF and Happy New Year to you all as well. Toni_F we sound like we both drive our kids crazy in the kitchen. Trog you've very kind and have a lovely new year too to you and your feathery pals.

Still a holiday here - so no one is really stirring - although the homestead is a sleepy one its also bursting at the seams with people and grub. I think this years FOOD PROFIT will be large.

Jamie's 6 hour Pork was incredible, although everyone was far too full to eat very much, due to over ambitious lunch table which was late. It almost killed me to stick to the recipe but its worth it as it was gorgeous.

I guess that means all the more for us.

I tried a new parsnip recipe which was good - honey roasted adjusted quantities but it was lovely never thought to add flour before but it did seem to bind the honey-ness to the parsnips.

Off to get a cuppa and update budgets etc. Paid a few things yesterday.

DH is sick so I'm off to make him a lemsip too - although he's banished to one end of the house and I'm donning rubber gloves before I see him as mum's treatment is on Friday.

Guests leaving early today due to infected husband, we don't like to spread the love too much.

Off to grab that kettle and get my pad with the spends/budgets scribbled on it.

Just popping up out of Lurkdom to wish you Happy New Year! Pippi, and say thanks for the tartiflette guidelines - wonder if surplus Milk Kefir would work for the sauce?

Hope your Mam's treatment goes well and you manage to avoid the seasonal lurgies beforehand..

I've a stand by plan if I get this lurgy - she can't have me near her I'm being so super careful to fingers crossed. Please let me know if the surplus Kefir works I do like a wee win on a leftover.

I rescued/borrowed MIL's sour milk today will freeze for scones at a later date so she'll likely get that back in a different form. Lovely to see you.
