Very old CCJ -challenging amount now oustanding

Hi

Many years of living in debt and I’m nearly there - hate to say but I have had my head in the sand for years and still try to ignore it.

anyway, very very old debt from the late 90s, that had a CCJ, is still lurking -i’ve been paying £50 a month forever and just resigned myself to the fact that it literally would go on for year.....

The original loan was with Universal credit, they refused an IVA, went to court, interest frozen - think it was 15k at the time it went to court - anyway, the debt has been sold onto Arrow now and I’ve had a letter saying I own £13k!!!!! It’s dawned on me that I don’t think I have ever had a statement from Paragon.

So I have emailed Arrow asking for a full payment history since the CCJ was made, in 1999 ish.

But I personally have no record of the CCJ....am i right to expect them to breakdown the debt and get the CCJ details? Can I refuse to make any payments until this is agreed?

I have a good credit rating now and I am worried about this messing that up by them recording a default etc...

Any advice welcome.

Any default should have been registered at the time and will have disappeared, not to return.

Yes, ask them to provide a full statement. It's unlikely you'll have paid this completely as £50 per month would take 25 years.

Equally unlikely the ccj ordered you to pay interest.

You can refuse to pay but you would have a stronger argument if you could say that you've paid it off. Having said that, it's unlikely they would try to enforce a 20-year old ccj.
