Been thinking of our family's future and we would really love to live in the country again, i.e. rural North Yorkshire. I work in finance, qualified management accountant, 10 years experience, master's degree in economics, but jobs like that would be really difficult to find outside of large cities. Therefore thinking whether anything like that would be available as homeworking (full time or part time) Looking on jobs boards but struggling to find homeworking jobs (they all require location). What's best way to find these sort of jobs? Are they really so rare?

It's not unusual for an accountant to work from home, but you'd usually apply for an office based role and then discuss home working for x days per week.0

Does this get advertised when it's an option? Struggling to find any in searches.0

You could always try fiverr or upwork , though obviously there's no garuanteed wage0

Some companies now actively discourage employees from coming in to the office because it allows them to reduce their costs, and incidentally to shift some of those costs onto the employee, for instance by requiring them to use their own computer.
I'm not sure whether any would advertise this, so it might be better to use your industry contacts to find out if any employers you might be interested in working for would do this (LinkedIn might be a good tool for finding out about this).0 -
There aren't many isolated places left in North Yorkshire! I can think of a dozen local authorities - large ones - that have employees who might travel from North Yorkshire. All of them have home working policies and actively encourage it in many cases. And provide the computing equipment to do so. I know of one member who works in Leeds and lives in London, and rarely attends the office at all - meetings are conducted by SKYPE. Think outside the box - there are a lot of options that don't mean you have to work from home in the traditional sense.0

There is a site named charity jobs that often have home working opportunities. As the name suggests its third sector. They often have HR or finance or coms jobs on there. Pay often not great but worth a look I guess.0

the kind of work you are looking for in your suggested location.. work from home wont be happening unless you go self employed.
you will find that you have to travel basically.0 -
I work from home in a permanent role as a data analyst. I was approached (ie headhunted) by an agency for this role and I interviewed face to face and then was offered the role. I occassionally travel to London or other client sites around the country but generally it is 100% WFH. We also have meetings via skype or conference calls via the phone. It is great to have no commute and no commute costs. I would suggest you ask yourself whether WFH is right for you. I work in a team of around 8 people all of whom work from home and a comment that comes up from time to time and that I have experienced is that it can be quite isolating and lack of face to face interaction can be an issue. I have also gone days at a time without leaving the house so I need to make sure that outside of work I have interests where I can get out and about otherwise it is easy to end up in a hermit like existance. Basically it suits a certain personality type and I think some people would struggle with WFH as opposed to being physically in an office.
On the back of this role me and my partner got a mortgage so the organisation I work for and pay packet I get are very real.
My advise is to register for more "techy" / smaller / specialist kinds of agencies that specialise in placing for smaller / startup organisations as that is where the WFH opportunitites are more likely to be. Avoid the high street agencies, they like the majority of larger or more established companies unfortunately still have an old fashioned perception that when you are "working from home" you can't be trusted to actually be working.0
