Don't think this applies to flats, where leaseholds generally do work and are the best solution we have.

This seems to apply to houses, where there is really no need in most cases for them to be leasehold. Only reason is it allows for greater profits to the detriment of the buyer.

you are mistaken. there is a need for some sort of lease as some new builds are built on land that has communal areas owned jointly by the leaseholders. So there needs to be a lease tenure of some sort. And there needs to be service charges etc payable to cover maintenance of the communal areas.

unless you mean in the cases where there is no communal areas then you are right there does not need to be leases, but of course leasehold would be a good way to buy a home for cheaper (its a form of financing). AS LONG AS THE BUYER DOES NOT OVERPAY!!!!

Why only 98% agree? It is fully the buyers own fault for being stupid. I think it just shows how people are easily willing to sign for something when they don't know what they are really getting.

I guess you can not help stupidity.

As Gordon Gekko said, A fool and his money are lucky enough to get together in the first place.

I really don't think that he is chucky Graham, I did think that Mayo was, but I took his word for it when he said that he wasn't.
