I’m gutted!! I spent £36 on lobster tails and put them in the freezer by mistake! It dawned on me while I was at work.... and this evening I checked the packaging which clearly says it’s already been frozen, and there not suitable for home freezing!
Do I just have to bin them.... or can I remove them from Xmas dinner and just risk it for a snack myself!!!

Honestly, I would risk it, unless you are feeding them to someone vulnerable.
Consider your cold chain: did they warm up at all, or did they go very quickly from cold cabinet to freezer? Were they well within the 'use by' date?
If they were close to 'use-by' and had come up to room temp, then bacteria will have multiplied, then been frozen, and will multiply again as they warm up.
If they remained cold, then the bacteria really won't have had much of a chance. If it was me, I would leave them in the freezer, then defrost slowly (say in the fridge over over 24 hours)
Of course, you must do what feels best for you, any advice on here is given with the best of intentions, but is amateur!0 -
As it's shell fish I probably wouldn't risk poisoning your guests but I'd risk eating them myself. £36 is a lot of money to throw away.
However I am no expert on these things and couldn't afford to spend that much anyway, but, I wouldn't have thought twice about freezing them then eating them...but that's just me.'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought

Send them to me, I'd happily eat them. And so should you.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0

I can test them safely for you. PM me and I’ll take them off you. You can’t afford to give your guests food poisoning!
Unfortunately my testing is destructive.0 -
The reason they were the only party food bits that you couldn’t freeze i guess I because the packaging clearly references that they’ve been thawed before being put on the shelf....
They are in the fridge now.... gona eat lobster for tea tomorrow! My poor guests will miss out!0 -

I'm sure you'll be fine! Then watch Little Women on Boxing Day and recall that, without refrigeration, they were continuing to eat lobster 3 days after a party was abandoned (though I do know that novels are not necessarily a health & safety guide)0

It's so unlike me to be the naysayer when it comes to eating things but I'd be wary. Had I bought live, cooked it myself then frozen as soon as cold and then had defrosted it in the fridge I'd be okayish re-freezing it, though would even then probably only use again to make stock. Unfortunately you have no idea how good the supermarket storage was so there are a number of unknown factors. I had poisoning from shellfish (crab) once and I was really, really unwell with it so one I'd be loathe to risk repeating. That said I would take the chance of not getting anything out of it at all by boiling the tails and making a fab bisque from the resulting soup but appreciate it would be very expensive pot of soup. At the end of the day only you can decide if you want to risk - if you do and you're ok it's been a risjk worth taking.0
