Howdy!
For the first time in many years , I’m gonna buy some health supplements . I keep getting emails from h&b from when I bought something ages ago. This time though, I went into their health questionnaire , answered all the in depth questions and am determined to make a new start for the year buying essential supplements that they recommend.
They have ( and will have again ) a penny sale when you buy more than one item on 2 of the products I want .
However, their website is a little glitchy on the iPad. This means that I will browse on my iMac later and probably proceed.
I’m just wondering if I could get same quality cheaper elsewhere , before I push the button .
Please advise
Thanks

If you eat a well balanced diet, you shouldn't generally need food supplements or vitamins.
Having said that, there are a few things I do use!
Echinacea - helps prevent or fight off colds
Lycine - ditto for cold sores (especially the ointment for treatment)
Psyllium (or Colon Care) - helps control IBS
H&B have regular sales, and I would only buy in a sale. If you order on line, you should be able to get cash back from TCB or Quidco, or Avios from the Avios e-store. H&B never track first time IME, but do pay out eventually.0 -
Thanks nick . It’s true what you say .However, I’m a bit of an oddball.
I’m allergic to most veg & I have had myasthenia gravis for three years now. Oh, I’m now 55 .
I used to take 1 berocca a day and hardly had anything wrong .
I’m now on a streroid ( prednisolone ) which is a necessary evil.Good news is , I’m down to 5mg.
Anyhow, I just want to know if it’s besr to try someone else or try Holland and Barrett .:)
Thanks
I think you’ve just answered my question . Thanks0 -
Is H&B over priced or not? Depends how much you need what it sells. I'll only ever buy items when they are on offer, and if I am unsure if I have the best price, Boots, Superdrug and even some supermarkets sell some of the more basic and trendy vitamins and nutrients, there are more niche things you can get in H&B that are difficult to find elsewhere, but when it comes to taking the products there are many rules you don't get warned about and it's not always the case that the staff know either, so make sure you do your research first.
Also, don't take things you don't need, at best all that happens is you end up with expensive urine. At worse they can cause imbalances and bigger problems down the line.0 -
I think H & B is expensive. Most of it is faddy stuff. I don't buy supplements, don't need them. I look in there for offers on seeds and nuts, which I eat every day.

Do check with your GP before taking any supplements as these may interact with your prednisolone and cause you further problems.0

You are very wrong in that statement. Anyone with a compromised digestive system ie Increased Digestive Permeability aka Leaky Gut has extremely elevated nutrient requirements which could not possible be satisfied by any amount of food. If I ate a whole supermarket of food I still would be very deficient. This affects a very large % of the population btw, far larger than is commonly known.
Anyone who is not in perfect health has higher requirements for nutrients and the worse the health the higher the requirements get.Having said that, there are a few things I do use!

I stopped purchasing from H&B a very long time ago because of the limited range and poor quality supplements.
When I do not need something more specialized, I purchase from HealthMonthly for the basics. They do offer a discount on their fairly low prices, particularly around pay day and at certain times of year. Their prices have risen quite a bit since brexit due to the exchange rate but they still offer the best prices and have now added free delivery to cover some of the increase in prices. Much of what they sell is by Swanson with a few other manufacturers products such as Jarrow another swanson brand, Now foods and others.
BTW buying powders can be a lot cheaper than tablets/capsules.0
