Right to buy

Hi
First time poster here. I'm looking into buying my council house and was just wondering if anyone has any experiences with companies like Regency and Metro Right to Buy: eg companies which say they do all the work (get the house valued, surveyed - I think - arrange the mortgage, do the paperwork etc) and then charge a fee of up to £3000 which, in some cases at least, is added onto your mortgage rather than having to be paid up front. Because of problems in the past I have a poor credit record, while my wife's is fine - she can get loans/credit cards no problem. This means, I'd imagine, it'd be harder to find a mortgage anyway, and as it would be a problem finding all the fees up front the idea of paying off the fees involved in getting a mortgage over the period of the mortgage, even if it's more than we would pay by doing it ourselves, is attractive. In other words as long as these companies do the job they say they do I can accept paying a bit more than perhaps I need to. Affording the mortgage is no problem, indeed it's probably cheaper than the rent we currently pay, but I'm just a bit wary because of the number of companies leafleting us about helping us to buy our council house. If anyone can give us any info or recommend a company they know to be genuine and do a good job (or ones to stay clear of), I'd be grateful.
Thanks

You could probably save yourself the fee by going to a good no fee adviser. They will arrange the mortgage for you, and they in turn will arrange the survey for the property.

I have my own views on firms that target credit problem cases or firms that charge high fees to do RTB paperwork , that really should incur little cost / time yourself.
