Hmcts

Hi I'm it sure if this is in the right place but hoping someone can help...

My mam received the following text message on her mobile:
Forwarded from EX0151360:

Polite reminder - Your instalment is now due. Please contact the National Payment Line to pay on 0300 7909901 quoting your account number and the division code 010 or pay online at link removed]. If you have made your instalment please ignore this message.

She's never owed any money or received any letters through the post regarding a parking fine or anything? There's nothing to say what to pay or what it relates to. I was just wondering if it was scam or legit?

Or maybe someone has used her phone number? Tried ringing number on the text but it's just an automated payment service?

Thanks

    Hi,

Unless you get a letter in the post saying you owe x amount pay up now, ignore it.

    Most likely a scam.

The payment line number is genuine so (if this is the first she's heard) it's likely to be a mis-trace.

    This is very poor advice.

OP the number is genuine. It could well be that HMCTS have been given the wrong number, but you need to contact them to let them know. If they've been given one wrong detail, it's possible that identity fraud has occurred and someone is using her details. Hopefully it's an innocent mistake, but you need to be sure it's not in case it gets passed to bailiffs.

These texts are 10 a penny from 100 different scammers.

HMCTS will always follow up with a letter.

If it’s the first she’s heard of it, it’s unlikely to relate to her now is it.

Has happened to a few people, see here :

Mobile phone numbers are notoriously recycled, or mis dialled, or quoted, or used by scammers, all the time.
