Are you commenting on the In house Display monitor which is failing.?
The meter display itself is unlikely to fail. If its the IHD failed, do what I, and nearly everyone else does and either bin it, or shove it in a drawer.
Smart metering is primarily there to enable the suppliers to run their businesses accurately and not rely on the vagaries of Joe Public submitting readings every three years , which is the norm.
Suppliers hate employing meter readers plodding around the streets all day costing them money.

I don't want to hijack the thread with another subject but no its not the in home display the gas meter cretit and gas symbol just disappear from the display altogeter leaving just the electric on the screen .I topped up yesterday (gas) and it disappeared again from the screen but came back ok.The top up went on fine when it reappeared.

Since everything is suppposed to be talking to each other when something doesn't it simply disappears from view on the in home display. Its back now anyway I will see how it goes or if the problem reoccurs and becomes more frequent.

Theres much more potential for technical problems arising from these meters' because of the comuuicatons requirment as well as the hardware/firmware at both ends.

It appears that N Power mention of a similar situation on there website.I was wondering did the top up update cause the gas meter data not showing on the home display?

I watched an assortment of "smart meter experts" spend 8 hours trying to do an install down the road , end of the day there was a BG van sorting out their mess

Anything connected to the internet will in some way and at some point be vulnerable to hacking, whether it be criminal activity or the government deciding it is legal to use your electronic device as a camera and microphone, to monitor everything you do and say.

Mobile internet masts pose a health risk, so the more electronic signals that are in your home, the greater the risk.

Whilst I do see your point, I am far more worried about the battery failing on the gas meter & it cutting off the gas & it taking them a week in midwinter to come out & maybe (if they feel like it or if they are currently employing anyone actually capable of) fixing it.
