Pre-approved for a Loan

Does anyone know if Barclays says you have been pre-approved for a Loan, one can take their word for it? I mean is it definite that you will get the Loan amount stated or do they do a Credit check before approving or declining your application?.

    Thanks for the quick reply, Al Mac. I am an existing customer but from what you're saying I've got a funny feeling I won't get the interest rate that comes up on the Loan quotation. Do you know if they will change the rate upon approval. Thanks
