Miss Speedy we did give someone work for a while but she was unreliable so we stopped giving her work we gave her £6.50 per 20 items and we charge £12.50 per 20 items so we got £6 for collecting it and delivering it back.
Kym I wouldn't recommend using a normal iron as it will be very very hard we did start using normal irons but they broke within a few weeks. You could use a normal ironing board just put tin foil under your cover

Thanks Steph, I charge by the kilo so was thinking of giving someone £2 per kilo as I charge £3 per kilo, min of 5kg so would get £5+ per load which I think is OK then, just didn't know if that didn't sound enough to pay someone!
I would also say not to bother with a normal iron - I used mine for a while but it wasn't really up to scratch. I've got a Morphy Richards Intellidome steam generator one now and it's very good - I got mine from Littlewoods so I could spread the cost. I've got a normal ironing board and get those Minky metallic covers for £3 from Argos.0 -
Hi Ladies,
We bought a garment steamer off ebay last week we've been trying it out and I'm glad to say it's fantastic! It's not new but it does a brilliant job. We put panelling on the wall with a couple of hooks and then attach some elastic and attatch pegs to the elastic to clip onto the bottom of a tshirt and on the end of the arms so it's in a star shape then steam it's brilliant, I can do shirts with it, thick tshirts and jumpers fussy tshirts ones with frills and everything.

Think I might be getting my first complaint
How has anyone dealt with them before? I don't know 100% but come home to an answerphone message from someone whose ironing I dropped off this evening so that's my first thought. My new employee did this one and I couldn't see anything wrong with it, should have known better as they are quite fussy!! The only thing I can think of that I noticed that when she'd turned the t-shirts inside out to iron them she'd also done the sleeves inside out, so basically the sleeve crease was the other way around.
What would you say if someone complained about that??? His wife already got funny with me when I picked it up because her husband told her I'd be there earlier than I was. My hubby's told me to refund them and tell them to not bother coming back but I don't want to lose a customer!!!
What would you do/say??0 -
I know you don't want to lose a customer but some are really more hassle than they are worth and makes for stressful ironing everytime you do their load. I would just apologise and say it wouldn't happen again and put the ball in her court, she may just accept your apology?
But its up to you depends if you can afford to lose her, some do expect a lot for their money even though they can wash and dry and ram into a bag anyway they like.and still expect perfection.
Sorry i had a bad day yesterday and felt like jacking it all in, too much hard ironing0 -

I've just rung her and she was OK really - she knew it wasn't me that had ironed it so she just wants me to go and have a look at it so I can see what she's talking about. They are quite fussy but I think that’s because past ironing services have lost items before. I’ve offered to redo the ones she’s not happy about again myself but she says she doesn’t mind she just wants me to see as she’s always been really happy with what I’ve done in the past. Will go tonight and see what it looks like!0 -

How did it go miss speedy??
I hate it when customers complain! The majority of people iron half of it themselves so know what it's like. grrr

It went OK actually thanks  she just showed me a couple of things she wasn't happy about but most people wouldn't have been bothered I don't think! Just took those few bits and did them again and let them have them back the day after so wasn't as bad as I thought. She said she didn't want to stop using me as everything has always been perfect.
Explained everything to the girl that's doing the ironing for me but did say they are ultra fussy and she took it well which was good too.
I'm not good with people complaining either - never know what to say to them! Hopefully that will be the last but not bad, 1 in just over a year

I have just started ironing and I need to get more business in, can anybody give me some tips. Have posted leaflets in near by neighbours, have registered on gumtree and yell. Is it worth putting something in the local paper?0
