Letter received about debt I don't have.

Hello, first time poster.
I received a letter from Money Junction Limited informing me that i owe a debt to a company by the name of 'Merligen Investments Limited'. The debt is £51.25. I have no debt and this is the first letter received from Money Junction and there is a number i can call (0203 126 4544). Do I just ignore as it appears some sort of scam. They quote an account number and reference number.
Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

I have a general rule with things like this.....................I ignore them at least once. Most go away.
Phoning can encourage them and educate them that they have a fish on the hock. If I owe someone money, they better include in the letter the reason and the service I supposedly had or they can do one. I wont be chasing them,.0 -
Hi,
Is this the address on the letter :
MONEY JUNCTION LIMITED
DUNSTON INNOVATION CENTRE
DUNSTON ROAD
CHESTERFIELD
DERBYSHIRE
ENGLAND
S41 8NG ?
We don't advise phoning a debt collector, however, judging by information held at companies house, they don't say very clearly what the nature of their business actually is.
Their website appears to be "under construction", and its not a debt collector i have heard of before.
However, a check on the FCA register does yield some results, there consumer credit license interim permission to trade, lapsed on 02/07/2015.
Permissions
Firm name:
Money Junction Limited Interim Permissions reference number:
635844
Permission lapsed 02/07/2015
Description
Status
Limitation Against Permission
Permission End Date lapsed 02/07/2015
Credit brokerage Credit broking
So as things stand, they have no legal right to ask you to pay anything.
But a check on "Merligen Investments Limited" reveals they are a debt purchasing company, so from this information i would assume Merligen Investments Limited have bought an old debt they allege is yours, and have instructed money junction to chase you for it.
Its only a small amount of money, and wont be chased very long, but lets say they are persistent, just send them this letter to find out more information :

Just about to type the letter and notice all communications to go through 'Moriarty Law Limited'
who are based in London. So that's 3 companies involved. All highly suspicious but will send letter to them.0 -
Hi
I received one of these last year it’s not a scam the number is for a law firm moriarty law my debt was for a I payed ppi claim for £519.59 money junction sold the debt to merligen investments I payed this debt 3 years ago so got on to my bank to send me a statement showing the exact amount that I payed and sent proof to moriarty law. Money junction has called itself many things and one of them is money and more who I dealt with for this PPI CLAIM sounds like money junction are selling debts that don’t exist looked into them and their finances are pretty crap and no website under construction very dodgy.0
