Career change advice needed

I’m currently in my mid 20’s and since I finished university I’ve been working in HR. I originally chose this option as I wanted to help people and give them advice etc however in the last number of years I feel the job has changed and has turned more into being a mini manager and ensuring the company saves money. I understand this is necessary but I no longer feel motivated or have any job satisfaction. I only ever hear from people if there’s problems. I’ve worked for multiple companies over the last number of years and basically came to the conclusion the role isn’t for me and I’m looking for advice on non office type jobs (I don’t mind some time in the office) or advice of fulfilling careers or has anyone made a career change got any advice?

Moved from working in a freight forward office to setting up my own haulage company, 27 years in February.
Now mostly office based:(, but had some good fun along with very hard work when I set up.0 -
I don't think you can have researched careers much if you thought that the purpose of HR was helping people.
How have you managed to work for "multiple companies" in the 4 or 5 years since graduation - have you been temping?0 -
When I originally started out it was advice/guidance to employees however it’s moved more to be pushed onto mangers.
I did quite a few fixed term contracts 3 months, 6 months etc before securing a perm role. Worked in areas such as financial services, healthcare, small, large companies etc.0 -
Bugslet yes could be an option I was also thinking careers Advisor, counselling, potentially going back to study. Might also do a reflexology course as I’ve an interest in that too.0

Well done on making the move bugslet. At least you were brave enough to give it a go. At the moment I stay in this field as it’s my comfort zone but certainly not something I enjoy.0

Part way through self employment, some external factors made me rather fed up and I entertained the idea of doing something else. I did what you did, which was wonder/cast about aimlessly thinking what else I could do. In short I ended up seeing a careers adviser and doing various tests. The advice was great and clarified what my strengths and weaknesses were and from that, what work best suited me.
As it turned out, doing what I do was one of the things on the list. The other options made sense and whilst I decided (wisely with hindsight) to carry on doing what I still do, it did really sort the wood from the trees and give me a direction to jump in, had I wanted to.
Cost around £300.00 about ten years ago.0 -
