Look at Co D&G procedure and identify grounds for gross misconduct.
It does not look good on the face of it, but get a defence in case for the hearing (offering to pay, admitted what you did before they found out, good previous character etc)
As above post suggests wait till you get fired & look for another job before they fire you 9then resign if offered)Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.0 -
Think if it were me I would be bluntly asking that if you resign will they give you a neutral reference.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

"..admitted what you did before they found out ..."
I didn't get the impression this was the case - "CCTV showed it was me..."
The only reason to resign would be if they ask you to , for the sake of convenience , in which case you might be able to negotiate a neutral reference.
what's happening with the car owner ? Do they know it was you ? Have you had any communication with them personally ? Do you know if they're satisfied with whatever restitution has been offered ?0 -
i would also suggest you learn the pleasure in writing a passive aggressive note. i am a huge fan of these for people who have parked like !!!!s.CCCC #33: £42/£240
DFW: £4355/£44050 -
I think you should contact the car owner to make a sincere apology and ask to pay him directly for the full cost of rectifying the damages.
If he agrees, the damage to your employer is reputational and there is no financial loss. There is a chance you may get away with a final written warning.0 -
Im under the impression leaving voluntarily (quitting) would be looked on less favourably at the benefits office than if fired. As such i would be sticking around until i was fired.
Id defintely be actively looking for another job expecting to be fired.
The Jobcentre is more concerned with what happened than how it is dressed up. The facts are the same either way, so a sanction will apply however he leaves.0 -

I was thinking something like that , but the firm may be more worried about reputational damage than the cost
It's possible they haven't even told driver it was one of their employees , they might just claim it was random vandalism
I think OP needs to check with employer before doing anything.
Have to say I don't think chances of OP keeping job are good but might get better exit/reference if cooperative0 -
Finding it hard to believe any of this is true. Is there any part of this being acceptable behavior that that OP thought could be considered. It's not their car park! Seriously???? I get really annoyed by people parking in disabled spaces when they don't have a blue badge. Especially when that means that I, with a badge, can't park. I get really annoyed. Not keyed a car yet!!!0

Obviously I've no way of knowing if this is for real or not , but people do daft stuff on the spur of the moment0

Resigning will make difference to reference plus if it was me I would not accept your resignation. I would be more worried about them reporting it to the police, its criminal damage and they have the evidence to prove it.0
