Seafarers

I'm a seafarer and I'm looking to buy my first house within the next 8 months. I'm a UK resident but I don't pay tax as I get it all back due to working away a lot. Will this make it harder getting a mortgage as I don't pay tax?

As above, normal rates should be achievable but it wont be for every lender.

It made getting a mortgage easier for me, as my affordability calculations showed either huge earnings (thanks to not paying tax at source) or huge lump sumps going into my account. Your lack of tax paying won't come into it at all, it's all down to you, your wage, your outgoings and your credit score.

The above are probably out to sell their services.

So who has the best mortgage deal for you Mr seafarer ?
I am not a mortgage broker
What is the best type of mortgage ? Fixed, tracker, offset
How much can you borrow and how long should the term be.
Income, age, savings, pensions, kids, job security, assurance/insurance ?
I do hope you will use a solicitor when you buy and All lenders use RICS approved surveyors to value the property you want to borrow on.
Whole of market mortgage broker ???

The Navy seem to manage pretty well - it's largely down to the quantity & quality of records. If your financial admin is robust, your choice of mortgages will be.
Insuring the place in your absences will be trickier.
    Best of luck!
